What 'cher point?

Let’s start this week’s ramblings just north of the Little Rockies where the Thunderbirds play sports once a week or more some of the year.

Something huge happened with the Thunderbirds this last week in that Isiah Runsabove won the first ever individual Cross Country Title. He is the first player at the Hays/ Lodgepole School to have ever been the State Champion for Class C Cross Country.

And he got the headline above the fold in Sunday’s Great Falls Tribune for his achievement! Well done Isiah Runsabove and you will end up in the Olympics yet! Good job Thunderbirds!

This last week the Bobcats beat Northern Colorado 27 to 24 in Greeley, Colorado. It was a sort of slow game and at the half the Bobcats were fourteen points behind. Late field goals did the job and the Bobcats came home with the win.

Meanwhile in the Frontier League, Montana Tech really beat up on Northern by score of 93 to 19. Northern put in another pathetic performance which was made all the worse, because many people, including the likes of me thinks that they have a couple of wins in them for the season. It must the coach or simply difficulties within the team itself. Whatever it is, some drastic changes need to be made and soon.

In other Frontier news, Carroll beat Rocky 16 to 3.

In NFL news the headline from last week was that Aaron Rodgers is out for seven or so games due to the broken collarbone. This is the second time he has broken his collarbone since being in the NFL. On the street, word is that if Rodgers doesn’t come back, the Packer’s season is over.

The Packers have a second string quarterback in Brett Hundley but no one seems to think he will do well at all. And there is even talk of signing Colin Kaepernick for the rest of this season. For those who don’t remember Kaepernick is apparently the NFL quarterback who can’t get a job this season because he started the not standing to honor Old Glory. I say give Brett Hundley a chance. Wasn’t it when Drew Bledsoe was hurt playing for the Patriots that Tom Brady was brought up and look how he has done. Maybe there is another Tom Brady in the NFL!

In the NFL let’s see just what is happening before this last weekend’s games.

In the American Conference, east division, the Patriots have gotten into first place with their 4 and 2 record. Other good teams in that conference are Pittsburgh and Kansas City although KC has gone sort of into a slump for the last two weeks.

In the national League it is Philadelphia at 5 and 1, Carolina at 4 and 2, Minnesota and Green Bay at 4 and 2 and the LA Rams at 4 and 2.

The bottom of the heap is San Francisco, Chicago, the Jets, Indianapolis, Cleveland and the Chargers along with the Giants and Tampa Bay.

Enough there to pick a Super Bowl yet? One side maybe It could be the Patriots vs. Pittsburgh for one side of this season’s Super Bowl.

Let’s do some picks this week. In the Frontier League it is going to be Montana Tech over Rocky and Northern loses to Carroll.

In the Big Sky League it is Montana State over Idaho State and Montana over Weber.

In the mighty NFL it is on Thursday night the Ravens over the Dolphins.

On Sunday it is the Falcons over the Jets, the Panthers over the Buccaneers and the Eagles over San Fran.

It will be the Bears over the Saints, the Patriots over the Chargers and the Raiders over the Bills.

How about the Colts over the Bengals, the Seahawks over the Texans and the Cowboys over Washington.

Sunday night it is the Steelers beating the Lions and the Broncos beating the Chiefs on Monday night.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
