October 25, 2017

The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team concluded the regular season last Tuesday by defeating the Box Elder Bears in the final conference match the regular season.

The Sugarbeeters topped the Bears 25-18, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-22 in winning the season finale three sets to one.

With the win the Sugarbeeters improved to 8-2 in District 6C East play and will take the District's number 2 seed into the tournament which begins Thursday in Chester.

The Sugarbeeters were led in the contest against the Bears by Junior Megan Molyneaux who slammed home 9 of the team 28 kills in the match.

Senior Sierra Swank served up three aces and put the hitters in position to score points with 16 assists on the night. Senior Carrie Hofer had 23 of the team's 73 digs in the match.

The Sugarbeeters and the North Star Knights will be without question the favorites in the tournament but anything can happen at tournament time and teams need to be playing at the top of their game.

Sugarbeeter head coach Molly Rose likes where her team is at right now, "They finished the regular season strong. The girls are playing very well right now and they're playing the best Volleyball of the season."

The post season requires a lot from teams looking to advance, "The girls need to keep playing with that enthusiasm, playing together, trusting each other to move forward and advance," added Rose. "They have been working really hard and know that if they play their game they won't lose."

The top three teams out of the District 6C-East Tournament will advance to the northern C Divisional November 2nd through 4th which will be held at the Chinook high school gymnasium.

Going into the District 6C-East Tournament North Start will take the No. 1 Seed finishing the regular season with a 9-1 conference record.

The Sugarbeeters finished 8-2 with their only blemishes being two hard fought matches against the Knights.

The Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks will be the No. 3 seed and the Box Elder Bears will hold the No. 4 seed. Big Sandy enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed and the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds round out the field as the No. 6 seed.

The Tournament gets underway Thursday morning in Chester with the Pioneers facing the Box Elder Bears. The winner of that match will play the North Star Knights in the third match of the day.

Hays/Lodge Pole will begin play against Chester J-I following the conclusion of match one. The winner of that contest will face the Sugarbeeters in match number four.

The Wildcats will begin play Friday morning at 10 a.m. against the Poplar Indians the District 2B No. 4 seed.
