Happy Holidays everyone! The library will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day. There will be no Story Hour December 22 and December 29. There will be no Books and Babies December 26 and January 2.

There are many great selections to choose from on the Christmas Book Tree. Stop by to check out several for your holiday reading.

There is no regular meeting of the library board of trustees this month.

Two new nonfiction books ready for check out are “Montana 1889” by Ken Egan, Jr. In similar fashion to “Montana 1864” Egan tells the stories of Indians, cowboys, and miners month by month during the year Montana embraced statehood. “Medical Medium: Thyroid Healing” is by Anthony William. In this work Williams “reveals an entirely new take on the epidemic of thyroid illness.”

“The Trust” is by Ronald H. Balson. Sixteen years after Liam Taggart left his home in Northern Ireland he has returned reluctantly to attend his uncle’s funeral. There he learns his uncle was shot to death. Liam is named the sole trustee of his uncle’s estate but he learns his uncle has left his entire estate to a secret trust. The directives state no distributions can be made until his killer is found. Liam is forced to open doors long ago shut as he steps into the center of a firestorm.

Author Alice Hoffman has written “The Rules of Magic.” In this prequel to “Practical Magic” this story tells of Susanna Owens, descendant of Maria Owens, who was accused of witchery in the 1600s. Now in the 1960s Susanna is trying to raise three children whom she realizes are dangerously unique. Although she sets down specific rules for them to follow, they are desperate to uncover who they really are. In their search the siblings discover there are hidden family secrets and a family curse they must escape.

“The Last Ballad” is the work of Wiley Cash. Ella May Wiggins travels two-miles on foot each day to work the twelve-hour night shift at the mill in Bessemer City, North Carolina. She only makes nine dollars a week, but in 1929 it is her only way of earning a living as she raises four children alone after her husband has left her. When word about a possible workers union spreads, Ella May begins to have hope. But the mill owners fear the union is a front for communism and threaten bloodshed to anyone who joins. On the night of the rally, Ella May makes a choice to join the movement and that decision affects all that she loves.

The latest murder suspense novel by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke is “Every Breath You Take.” Alexander McCall Smith’s newest No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency novel is “The House of Unexpected Sisters.”
