The Fort Belknap Community Economic Development Corporation (FBCEDC) received a $30,000 grant from the First Nations Development Institute of Longmont, Colorado through the generous support of the Northwest Area Foundation. This award will support the efforts of building food sovereignty assets on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

The FBCEDC will utilize the data gathered from the Lodge Pole Food Sovereignty Assessment to build on our current food sovereignty assets addressed in this project. We will look at different ways to increase food growing capacities for year around availability. The Grant will help towards research and development in Hydroponic growing, to boost fresh produce and to supply the communities on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

Harlan Mount, FBCEDC Executive Director states the First Nation Development Institute offers grant opportunities to strengthen Native American economies and support healthier lifestyles in Indian Country. “I believe the impact of the grant will help to build our current assets and enhance our growing capacity to year round. I would like to thank First Nations Development Institute and the Northwest Area Foundation for this opportunity in another step closer to achieving food sovereignty on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.”
