January 24, 2018

Performers and stage hands pose after the final performance of "The Snow Queen." The Missoula Children's Theatre adaptation of the fairy tale was staged under the direction of two traveling actor/directors with local school children as performers. This was only the second time "The Snow Queen" was performed outside the Missoula area. Each year the Missoula-based theatrical company provides traveling theater productions to about 1200 communities in every U.S. state and several foreign countries. Jacob Hawk, one of two visiting actor/directors with the Missoula Children's Theatre, plays Hob and relates the tale of "The Snow Queen" to a group of Hobgoblins on the Chinook High School stage. The musical production was staged with local students as performers and stage hands. During the week of preparation, in addition to practices and rehearsals for the final performance, the two traveling actor/directors held workshops at Meadowlark Elementary and the Zurich School.. On Saturday of the final performance of the Missoula Children's Theatre production, student/performers have a full dress rehearsal in the morning, then two performances in the afternoon. Performers are shown taking a lunch break in the hallways of Chinook High between the two Saturday afternoon performances. About 70 children were involved in the production.
