Meadowlark Crossing Guards get instruction from Chinook Chief of Police

January 31, 2018

On January 17th Meadowlark School had our annual crossing guard training, hosting a guest speaker to talk to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students on the importance of crossing guard safety. Elmer Zarn, Chinook's Chief of Police, spoke to the Meadowlark students on the importance and safety of being a crossing guard. Chief Zarn taught the students how to hold the signs appropriately and slowly extend the sign before immediately going out to the street. He reminded crossing guards to walk the students completely to the other side of the street until they are on the sidewalk and then they can return to the other side. Chief Zarn emphasized to the students to dress appropriately, using reflective and warm gear especially in below 0 temperatures. We also ask the public to keep our student's safety in mind when driving through our school zones and be aware of our crossing guards using the 15-mile/ hour speed limit and not using cell phones while driving.
