January 31, 2018

Chinook junior Cord Schneider scores two of his game high 20 points during first quarter action of the Sugarbeeters 60-43 win over CJI.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters inched a bit closer to locking up the top seed at the District 9C Tournament next month following a pair of wins over the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks, 60-43 on Friday and the Box Elder Bears 79-37 on Saturday to improve to 11-0 in District 9C play and 13-1 overall.

The Turner Tornadoes picked up a pair of wins this past week beginning with a 57-52 win over the Dodson Coyotes in a non-conference clash. Saturday Turner picked up its third conference win of the season as they defeated the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks 52-43.

The Harlem Wildcats have played hard all season long and picked up their fourth win of the season on Friday avenging an early season loss to the Cut Bank Wolves with a 70-65 win. Saturday the Wildcats couldn't keep up with the Rocky Boy Stars falling 80-54 on the road.

The Sugarbeeters didn't play their best game of the season Friday against the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks but still were in complete control start to finish.

Junior Cord Schneider capped a 7-0 run to start the game for the Sugarbeeters with a free throw midway through the first quarter. The 'Beeters however just weren't clicking on successive possessions and held just 11-5 advantage entering the second quarter.

Junior Isaac Bell made a nice pass to Schneider to start the second as Chinook doubled up the Hawks 14-7. Freshman Reece Elliot was called upon for big minutes in the second as the 'Beeters found themselves in a bit of foul trouble.

Elliot secured an offensive rebound and hit a free throw to maintain the advantage 17-10.Junior Trajan Hannum turned a steal into a layup and the 'Beeters led 19-10.

Hannum then connected with Schneider on back to back possessions for buckets giving Chinook some momentum and a 23-14 advantage late in the half.

The Sugarbeeters played much better coming out of halftime as they limited the visitors to just four points in the third quarter while getting five points apiece from Schneider and junior Brendan Edwards to open up a 42-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Sugarbeeters coasted to a 60-43 win and were led on the night by Schneider's 20 point effort.

Saturday the 'Beeters were in Box Elder looking to complete the season sweep of the Bears.

The Sugarbeeters started fast and never looked back in playing a solid 32 minutes. Hannum opened the scoring for the Sugarbeeters with a triple.

Isaac Bell then found Schneider with a nice pass for another bucket and then Bell found junior Riley Kellam for another layup and Chinook quickly led 7-0.

Bell would hit Schneider again and then found the scoring column himself with a layup of his own for a 11-0 lead.

After a Bear three pointer Schneider scored inside followed by Kellam and Bell with an offensive put back for a 17-3 advantage.

Chinook kept the offense rolling and led 26-7 after eight minutes and began the second quarter with a bomb from Edwards.

Edwards found his mark in the quarter draining three from long range as the Chinook lead grew to 44-18 by halftime.

The Sugarbeeters put 23 up in the third quarter and held the Bears to just two fourth quarter points in securing the 79-37 win.

Bell led the way with 23 points in the win and collected six rebounds while also dishing out five assists.

Schneider finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Sugarbeeters. Edwards added 12 points and six boards to the teams effort.

The Turner Tornadoes picked up a pair of wins over the weekend and it began a solid effort in Dodson Friday night.

Turner led 15-9 after one and held a 29-22 halftime advantage. Senior Eddie Harmon knocked down a pair from downtown in helping Turner get the lead.

Junior Cody Welsh scored a pair of baskets in the third quarter but the Tornadoes entered the fourth quarter down 41-39. Welsh connected twice from long rang as the Tornadoes reclaimed the lead and secured a 57-52 win.

Harmon finished with 24 points for the Tornadoes while Harmon added 19.

Saturday the Tornadoes trailed 10-9 after eight minutes but a 14 point second quarter effort, spearheaded by nine points from Welsh had the Tornadoes on top 23-19 at the break.

The teams would trade buckets in the third and Turner maintained a four point advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Harmon and Welsh each scored six points down the stretch helping the Tornadoes secure their third conference win of the season 52-43 over the CJI Hawks.

Welsh led the Tornadoes with 19 points while Harmon added 12.

The Harlem Wildcats were held to just 28 points in a two point loss to the Cut Bank Wolves back in December but things were a lot different Friday in Harlem as the Wildcats scored a 70-65 win over the Wolves

Harlem trailed 38-35 at the break but won the second half 35-27 to secure a 70-65 win over the District 2B counterparts. Sophomore Brad Cichosz scored 19 points in the win.

Saturday the Rocky Boy

Stars scored a early lead and steadily built on it in defeating the Wildcats 80-54.
