The 69th Montana Seed Show Judging Policy

March 7, 2018

The single judge system will be used for all Montana Seed Show exhibits excluding the People’s Choice Awards and the panel judging used for the Pie and Bread Departments. The judges will be selected and approved by the Seed Show Committee and will be selected based on knowledge and past performance of judging in the fields relating to the exhibits to be judged.

Judges will report to the superintendent in charge of their respective departments to receive instruction and assistance in evaluating the entries. The superintendent will assist in the judging process by presenting the exhibit to be judged, to the judge and recording the judge’s placing decisions. The judge will be responsible for tallying the total scores for classes using a scoring system and will place a signature on the final score sheet indicating agreement with final placing. The judge will be solely responsible for placing the ribbons on the appropriate exhibit. The superintendent will assist in attaching the ribbons to the exhibits. Under no circumstances will the superintendent change, alter or intentionally try to sway the outcome of the judging.

Should any doubt arise as to the regularity of any entry or any other important matter which the judge feels incompetent to decide, he/she will confer with the Seed Show Chairman and the Department Superintendent for final determination of the matter. Classes in which only one exhibitor makes entries, the judge, at his/her discretion may withhold any or all premiums where the exhibit is not worthy of an award. The decision of the judge will be final and no appeal will be considered. Any exhibitor attempting to interfere with the judges during the judging process or who publicly expresses disapproval of the decisions of the judges or who by act or influence, shall be guilty of conduct unbecoming of an exhibitor and shall forfeit the premium and be excluded from further competition. In the event of a tie, each person will be awarded a Rosette and split the prize money.

On behalf of the Montana Seed Show Committee I’d like to invite all our friends and neighbors up and down the Hi-Line to attend. This year marks 69 years, please mark your calendars for March 8, 9, and 10 plan on attending to help us make this year another success.

I’d first like to thank all the volunteers that help organize and put on this show. Without their help this show wouldn’t happen. Next I would like to thank our advertisers and exhibitors, without their continued support this show wouldn’t happen. Please take a minute to stop by their booths and businesses and say thank you for supporting us, we greatly appreciate it.

This marks the second year of our beef cook-off. It went very well last year so we’re going to run with it again this year. Come out Thursday evening and see what everyone has to offer. We do ask that this year the folks who enter bring a copy of their recipe, in hopes of someday putting together a cookbook. The North Central Montana Cattlewomen are still helping us put this event on. Come out and enjoy it!

Once again I want to thank our exhibitors and advertisers for continuing to support us. Weather they’re buying pies or donating door prizes we couldn’t do this without them. I hope to get a chance to visit with everyone at the 69th Montana Seed Show.

Paul Rasmussen, Chairman
