The Cal Wearley Track and Field meet usually takes place the first Wednesday of April and is typically used as a stiff early season test for athletes to dust off the cobwebs of winter as the season gets underway. After three weeks of delay the meet finally was held last Wednesday with 34 teams participating and representing a strong contingent from the Northern B and Northern C as well as the Class A Havre Blue Ponies.

Unlike years past when the bulk of the season followed the Cal Wearley, teams are already looking at the District 2B and District 9C meets next week. The shortened season and delayed start didn't hamper the competitive spirit as many great efforts were turned in.

Harlem sophomore L'Tia Lawrence continued to dominate the distance races, winning every time she stepped on the track. Lawrence won the 1,600 Meter Run Wednesday with a time of 5:51.90, Saturday in Lewistown at the Fergus Invitational she completed the four laps in 5:53.76. Lawrence won the Cal Wearley 3,200 Meter run with a time of 12:40.62 and was a champion in Lewistown, crossing the finish line in 13:11.83.

Turner sophomore Sarah Billmayer has ran very well for the Tornadoes, excelling in the hurdles. Wednesday she finished second in the 300 Meter Hurdles at the Cal Wearley with a time of :51.43. In Glasgow on Saturday she won the event with a time of :50.94. Billmayer also picked up a second place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles Saturday completing the race in :18.43. She also earned a third place finish in the Triple Jump at the Cal Wearley, covering a distance of 31'7.5"

Chinook junior Megan Molyneaux performed very well in the sprints over the weekend finishing second in the 100 Meter Dash Wednesday (:13.47) and Saturday (:14.14). Molyneaux also finished third in the 200 Meter Dash at both meets. Wednesday she crossed the line in :27.16, Saturday she finished in :28.62.

Sugarbeeter junior Kourtney Hanson was victorious in the 800 Meter Run Saturday in Glasgow with a time of 2:45.63.

Hanson along with Molyneaux, senior Jaye Anderson and junior Lincy Johnson earned a third place finish in the 4x100 Meter Relay at the Cal Wearley, completing the race in :54.38, Saturday the quartet finished second with a time of :54.53.

The Sugarbeeter girls also finished second in the 4x400 Meter Relay in Glasgow with a time of 4:54.67, Wednesday at the Cal Wearley they were fourth (4:42.55).

Sophomore Raynee Hasler captured the top spot in the 3,200 Meter Run Saturday completing the eight laps in 13:08.12. Hasler also finished third in the 1,600 meter run in Glasgow.

Overall the Sugarbeeter girls finished second as a team in Glasgow and were sixth at the Cal Wearley. Harlem was seventh in the girls team standings at the Cal Wearley and fifth in Lewistown while the Tornado girls were fifth in Glasgow and ninth at the Cal Wearley.

Chinook junior Trajan Hannum won the 1,600 Meter run at the Cal Wearley, covering the distance in 5:02.52. Hannum was also third in the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:07.43. Saturday in Glasgow, Hannum won the 800 Meters completing the two laps in 2:08.71

Turner junior Cody Welsh was superb at the Cal Wearley, Wednesday and in Glasgow on Saturday. Welsh finished second at both meets in the 110 Meter High Hurdles. In Havre, Welsh covered the distance in :16.81, Saturday he recorded a time of :17.71. Welsh finished second as well in the 300 Meter Hurdles at both meets. Wednesday he crossed the finish line in :42.93 and on Saturday recorded a :42.70. Welsh also finished third in the High Jump in Glasgow clearing 5'6".

Chinook junior Cord Schneider picked up a second place finish in the Shot Put Saturday in Glasgow with a 41'3" effort. Schneider also was third in the Javelin with a mark of 125'10".

Also in Glasgow on Saturday senior J.J. Colby scored a second place finish for the Sugarbeeters in the 300 Meter Hurdles (:46.16), while Junior Ross Reed was third in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of :21.15. Reed also finished fifth in the 300 Meter Hurdles. Sophomore Josh Gillett picked up a third place finish in the 200 Meter Dash (:27.27).

Hannum, Gillett, Colby and sophomore J.T. Hauer finished third in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 4:11.08.

The Top 10 was held Tuesday in Glasgow and results will be included in next weeks paper.

The District 9C meet will be held in Havre next Wednesday, May 9 and the District 2B will be in Glasgow on Saturday, May 12.
