Chinook Lions take small group to Cut Bank, bring home three trophies

July 4, 2018

The Chinook Lions Swim team was limited in numbers this week when only a handful of swimmers made the trip to Cut Bank as the season enters the home stretch of the regular season.

Harlem's Alaynee Hawley shattered the Cut Bank Pool Record in the girls 13-14 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:36.47 eclipsing the old mark by nearly six seconds.

The Lions had three High Point winners in Cut Bank with Benton Elliot taking top honors in the 13-14 boys division, Britton Elliot winning the 11-12 girls and Brockton Elliot taking home the trophy for the 9-10 boys.

Benton took three tenths of second off the Cut Bank Pool record for the 50 Meter Freestyle winning with a time of :27.70. He also established a new mark in the 200 Meeter Freestyle with a time of 2:28.96 trimming 11 full seconds off the old standard. Benton also won the 100 Meter Freestyle.

Britton won the 50 Meter Freestyle (:32.59), the 100 Meter Freestyle 1:14.31 and was third in the 50 Meter Backstroke.

Brockton took first in the 100 Meter Individual Medley (1:36.30), and the 50 Meter Butterfly (:41.35) while also finishing second in the 50 Meter Freestyle.

The Blaine County Fair will occupy the attention of many swimmers from Harlem and Chinook this weekend but those competing will swim in either Sidney or Plains.

July 14-15 will have teams back to near full strength as they swim in Scobey.

Chinook and Harlem will close out the regular season June 21-22 in Lewistown and will be the last opportunity for swimmers to become eligible to compete at the Eastern Divisional the following week, July 28-29 with the Chinook Lions hosting the meet.

The Montana Federation of Swimmers State Meet will be held August 4-5 in Conrad this year.

The Chinook Lions Swim Team was represented in Cut Bank by the Elliot family and they performed extremely well in the pool. All three, Benton back left, Britton back right and Brockton front, won High Point Trophies in their respective age groups. Benton in the Intermediate boys, Britton in the Junior girls and Brockton in the Midget boys. Younger brother Bryce also swam in Cut Bank and earned a first place finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle and a third in the 25 Meter Breaststroke.
