October 17, 2018

If you missed the first meeting of our book club, you can still come in and check out a book to read for before the next meeting!

The movie today will be “Wish You Well” at 1:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. The movie is not rated and it runs for one hour and 40 minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served. “Ladies in Lavender” will be the movie next Wednesday.

New movies available this week are Skyscraper and Hotel Transylvania 3.

A husband’s secret life, a wife’s new beginning: escape to the Caribbean with “Winter in Paradise” by Elin Hiderbrand. “The Dream Daughter” by Diane Chamberlain is a thrilling, mind-bending novel about one mother’s journey to save her child. Though the Great War has ended, Bess Crawford finds herself caught in deadly circumstances on a remote Welsh headland in “A Forgotten Place” by Charles Todd. “The First Love” is the latest Amish novel by Beverly Lewis.

A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be in Bigfork when the SBG Gym held a Women’s Self- Defense Seminar and it was a great experience. The trainer recommended some books, which we now have available at the library. “The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals that Protect Us from Violence” by Gavin De Becker is a book that could save your life. “Protecting the Gift” also by Gavin De Becker is a guide to keeping children and teenagers safe and parents sane. “Self-Defense for Women” by Loren Christensen with a forward by Gavin De Becker is a woman’s guide to self-defense that works. All too often we become complacent and unaware of our surroundings because we live in a small town and think it will never happen here. I learned to: Be Aware, Trust Your Instincts, Stay Engaged, and Be Willing to Act. These books are full of great information to help you stay safe and keep your kids safe.

Story Time is Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. Middle School Hangout, for kids in grades 6-8 is held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. LEGO Club is Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and is open to kids in grades K-6. Younger kids are welcome to attend with an adult.

Our display table has a wide variety of spooky books available for checkout for the month of October.

There is always something going on at the library. Check us out on Facebook or look us up on our website at http:www.blainecountylibrary.org for up to date information about what’s going on!
