Letter to the Editor

November 28, 2018

Citizens of Blaine County, It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve you! We have cried together over of the loss of loved ones and we have rejoiced together when our loved ones are found safely. During my short 9.5 years at your Sheriff’s Office I have formed friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my days.

I have tried my best to address the concerns of all citizens of Blaine County and I am only sorry that we could not save the loved ones lost or prevent some of you from being victimized. For that, I am truly sorry. Every day that I put on your Sheriff’s Office uniform, badge and gun I felt wholeheartedly blessed to do so.

Being considered to be your Sheriff was the most humbling experience of my life. However, the citizens of the County have spoken and I have tendered my resignation at your Sheriff’s Office. Thank you for the opportunity to further serve you.

The Commissioners have given you an unprecedented voice of control over your Sheriff’s Office, one that you have never had before. By moving your Sheriff’s Office budget from the “General Fund’’ into a “Public Safety Fund”, the TAXPAYERS of Blaine County are the only people who can approve future increases of the budget. Please scrutinize all expenditures and be skeptical of future increase requests.

The current Sheriff and I have worked hard to ensure that with proper management, your Sheriff’s Office can effectively operate as is for a long time without coming to you the TAXPAYERS for an increase in funds.

Sincerely,

Frank Jay Billmayer II

Chinook, MT.
