Sugarbeeters Wildcats get season underway at Havre, Cascade Tournaments

Sugarbeeter junior JT Hauer works to control his opponent Saturday at the Havre Invitational. Hauer had a nice tournament finishing third at 160 pounds.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters were in Havre for there first competition of the new year with four wrestlers competing. The Harlem Wildcats were in Cascade at the Badger Invitational.

The 'Beeters accumulated 36.5 points in Havre with just half of their wrestlers competing. Chinook will look to have most of their wrestlers on the mat this Friday when they host their home mixer.

Junior JT Hauer led the way for the 'Beeter wrestlers finishing third at the tournament in the 160 pound weight class.

Hauer began Saturday with a hard fought loss to CMR's Mike Brien Jr in first round action 10-5. Hauer bounced back in the consolation semifinal round by defeating Hunter Decker of Simms 4-0 to advance to the third place match.

Joining him on the mat was a familiar foe in Brien Jr. This time it was Hauer that would come out on top. JT avenged his opening round set back by showing a lot of heart in the consolation final, pulling out a 8-4 decision.

Senior Ross Reed also placed at the Havre Invitational, finishing fifth at 152. Ross fell to Orien Thiverge in his quarterfinal match after receiving a first round bye. He then pinned Cut Bank's Colten Barsness at the 4:14 mark.

Reed then fell to Austin Vanek of Cut Bank and found himself in the 5/6th place match. Reed pinned Quinton Spring, Great Falls CMR in 2:18 to finish fifth.

Also wrestling well for the 'Beeters in Havre were a pair of 138 pounders in Garrett Pruttis and Ethan Liddle.

Pruttis would finish fifth in the tournament by defeating Liddle by major decision 19-3. Pruttis won by pinfall in his opening match over Lucas Kinkaid of Simms in 1:30. After losing his next match Pruttis defeated Mariah Wahl of Cut Bank Fall in 2:34.

Liddle gained some valuable experience over the weekend and picked up a win along the way defeating Lucas Kinkaid of Simms in 1:30.

The Wildcats were in Cascade over the weekend and the Journal was able to acquire partial results from trackwresting.com.

According to the website four Wildcat wrestlers competed with Jeremiah Mount finishing 6th at 285. Mount won his opening match by major decision over a Great Falls High wrestler 8-0.

Both Wildcats and Sugarbeeters will head to Glasgow this Saturday following the Chinook mixer.

They will get back to work in the wrestling room to make adjustments and work on thing needed to improve as they close out 2018 in Fort Benton on Thursday, December 13.

They will then head to Great Falls to compete in the CMR Holiday Classic and the Great Falls Bison tournament on December 14-15. The will then head to Shelby for their final comeption of 2018 on Friday, December 21.

They will return to the mat in 2019 at the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Mixer on Thursday, January 3.

The Northern B/C Divisional wrestling tournament will take place on February 2 in Cut Bank with the All Class State Wrestling Tournament happening the following week in Billings at the Rim Rock Auto Arena on February 8-9.
