Blaine County Library

February 27, 2019

Free People Reading Freely Book Club will meet Monday March 4th at 7:00 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. We are continuing to read banned books, but we are branching out beyond the top ten of 2017. Library Staff has put together a list of banned books available for participants to choose from. You have probably read more than one banned book on the list! We have had some thought-provoking discussions.

Due to the renovation of our restrooms, we will not be showing a Wednesday movie for the next couple weeks. Story Time, Middle School Hangout and LEGO Club will continue at their regular times.

This week we have a display of the 2018 Montana Book Award winners. The Montana Book Award is an annual award that recognizes literary and/or artistic excellence in a book published during the ward year. Eligible titles are either set in Montana, deal with Montana themes/issues, or are written, edited or illustrated by a Montana author or artist. Books for all ages are considered for the award. "One-sentence Journal" by Chris La Tray was chosen as the 2018 Montana Book Award Winner. Chris, an enrolled member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians, is a writer and photographer who lives just outside Missoula. This book contains short poems and essays from the world at large. Four books were chosen for the Montana Book Award Honor. "Warblers & Woodpeckers: a father-son big year of birding" by Sneed Collard III recounts the quest of Sneed and his 12 year-old son, Braden, to see as many birds as possible in a single year. "The Traveling Feast: On the Road and at the Table with My Heroes" by Rick Bass is a journey of Thanksgiving. His goal was to make a memorable meal for each of his mentors, to express his gratitude for the way they have shaped not only his writing, but his life. "The Flicker of Old Dreams" by Susan Henderson is a novel about a young woman who comes most alive while working in her father's mortuary in the small, forgotten Western town of Petroleum, Montana. "Howl Like a Wolf: Learn to Think, Move, and Act Like 15 Amazing Animals" by Kathleen Yale is packed with learning and fun activities.

Other new books ready to go this week are "I Owe You One" by Sophie Kinsella, "The Girl in the Glass Box" by James Grippando, "The Wedding Guest" by Jonathan Kellerman and "Never Tell" by Lisa Gardner. Bohemian Rhapsody and First Man are new movies available this week.

Remember February is "Love Your Library" month. Be sure to fill out one of the "I Love My Library Because" hearts during your next visit.
