Jason Smith, Montana State Indian Coordinator to Governor Steve Bullock, will deliver the Commencement Address at Aaniiih Nakoda College (ANC) 31st Commencement Ceremony, May 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Harlem High School gymnasium.

When Aaniiih Nakoda College (ANC) holds its 31st Commencement Ceremony on May 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Harlem High School, Jason Smith, Montana State Indian Coordinator to Governor Steve Bullock, will deliver the Commencement Address. Thirty-one graduates are slated to receive their diplomas at the graduation event.

Although Governor Steve Bullock appointed Smith to serve on his cabinet as State Director of Indian Affairs effective January 7, 2013, this young man's career actually began after he graduated from Salish Kootenai College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Entrepreneurship. After working with the Native American Development Corporation in Billings for a period of time, he served as Executive Assistant to the Chairperson of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribes.

During the 2009 Montana State Legislature, Smith performed as Chief of Staff of the Montana American Indian Caucus. From there, he worked as the State Tribal Economic Development Program Manager.

"With Jason's experience and delightful personality, it is no wonder the governor would select him to serve on his cabinet. To his position with the governor's office, Jason brought years of experience working with all Montana tribes," ANC President Carole Falcon-Chandler said.

As an enrolled member of the Confederated and Salish Kootenai tribes and descendant of the Assiniboine and Sioux, Smith is the son of Monica Caye of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai and Leonard Smith of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux.

According to the college's Dean of Students, Clarena M. Brockie, the ANC Administration, Faculty and Staff are extremely proud of the graduates. She invites everyone to attend the Commencement Ceremony and the feed that will follow graduation.
