Dave Azure, Laine Jorgensen, Kathleen Adams, and Charley Humphreys were declared Summer Bar Olympics Champions on Saturday.

On Saturday, July 27, the Eagles Club in Chinook played host to the Summer Bar Olympics which was sponsored by Baker Amusement. Four four-person co-ed teams competed in pool, darts, bowling, and corn hole. After accumulating points in each event, the Cowboys N Indians team comprised of Dave Azure, Charley Humphreys, Laine Jorgensen, and Kathleen Adams was declared the winner.

In addition to the $25.00 per person entry fee, eighty percent of which went towards the winner's pool, Baker Amusement added $200 to the prize pool. The other twenty percent of the per person entry fee covered a pulled pork and cole slaw meal as well as the fees for bowling, pool, and darts.

The competition, which began at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and lasted approximately four hours, was attended by competitors and a small crowd of spectators.

According to Eagles Club General Manager, Laine Jorgensen, "The idea started as a conversation on a bar stool as something fun to do in our sometimes sleepy little town. When I became the manager of the Eagles, I decided to actually make it happen. The first Olympics was last summer. Everyone had such a great time that we also held a Winter Olympics, so Saturday's competition was our third Olympics event," Jorgensen said.

Jorgensen recalled that the Winter Olympics fielded eight teams. "We scheduled this Olympics for late July because we were thinking people would be between hay harvest and irrigating, so we were hoping for more teams, but despite the small turn out, we still had fun," she said.

As stated on their Facebook page, the Fraternal Order of Eagles is an international, non-profit organization that unites fraternally "in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice and equality." Their mission is "to make human life more desirable by lessening its ills and by promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope."

With events like the Summer and Winter Bar Olympics, area residents are able to experience some measure of pleasure.
