Start off the year with a new book from the Harlem Library. “Ice Cold Heart” is a Monkeewrench novel by P.J. Tracy. In the bitter winter of Minnesota Detecives Magozzi and Rolseth are called to the gruesome homicide of Kelly Ramage. When evidence leads to a year-old murder that is the mirror image of Kelly’s the tech-geniuses in Monkeewrench Software are called in to assist. What is revealed is an insidious conspiracy.

Bestselling author Max Lucado’s latest is “How Happiness Happens.” Lucado shares how to find “lasting joy in a world of comparison, disappointment, and unmet expectations.”

“The World That We Knew” is by Alice Hoffman. It is 1941 in Berlin. During humanity’s darkest hour three unforgettable young women must act with courage and love to survive.

Author Stephen Coonts has written “The Russia Account.” In this thriller CIA officer Tommy Carmellini is pitted against a murderous international financial conspiracy that leaves a trail of death and corruption.

“What Happens in Paradise” is by Elin Hilderbrand. After the shock of losing her husband in a helicopter crash, Irene Steele learns he has been leading a double life on the island of St. John where another woman loved him, too. Now Irene and her sons are on St. John to learn the truth about a man they thought they knew.

Other new selections include “Child’s Play” by Danielle Steel, “The Seekers” by Heather Graham, and “The Hero” by Lee Child.

Congratulations to Steve Leitner! He is the winner of the 2019 Reading Challenge drawing for the “Blast the Winter Blues” bag of gifts. There were nine people who completed the challenge to read at least 52 books last year.

Stop by the library to participate in this month’s passive program to compile of list of words that patrons think of to describe our library. At the end of the month we will use these words to make a library word cloud!

The Book Challenge for January is to read an ugly book!

During the month of January you may buy a grocery bag full of used books for only one dollar.

The children’s programming is back in full swing. Storytime for the little ones ages 0-5 and their parents/caregivers meets on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. for a time of stories, songs, activities and play. The After School Squad for elementary students is held on Wednesdays at 3:30 and includes stories, crafts and snacks!

Lego Club for all ages meets on Thursdays at 4:30 for a time of creative building.

The Book Club meets on Mondays at 4 P.M. and we are currently reading “Beneath a Scarlet Sky” by Montana author Mark Sullivan.

The library will be closed Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The library board of trustees will hold it regular meeting Wednesday, January 29, 4:15 P.M. in the meeting room.
