The Chinook Sugarbeeter and Harlem Wildcat wrestling teams are in the home stretch as they prepare for the Northern B Divisional in Conrad on February 8.

On Friday the teams were in Chinook as the Sugarbeeters hosted their final mixer of the season and honored their two seniors in the process. Saturday night they were in Harlem for the Annual Wildcat Invitational.

With just one week left in the regular season and limited mat time, the wrestlers are looking to get better with each chance to compete.

Sugarbeeter seniors, JT Hauer and Rielly Wiegand made the most of their final opportunity to wrestle in front of their hometown fans. Both were able to pick up wins on the night and were honored after the completion of the second round for their efforts on the mat wearing the black and orange.

Also picking up wins for the Sugarbeeters were junior Rebecca Stroh (113), freshman Lane Snider (120), sophomore Drake Berreth (132), freshman Tyler Schoen (152) and sophomore Wyatt Dunbar (285).

The wildcats were represented on the mat this weekend by freshman Amelia Blackcrow (113), freshman Landen Gray (113), sophomore Darrius LongKnife (126), sophomore John Hughes (145), junior Lance Blackcrow (160), sophomore Mike King (170).sophomore Marty Snow (160) and sophomore Mikkel Rider (205).

In Harlem on Saturday the Sugarbeeters had five wrestlers in the field and placed four on the podium.

Snider went 2-1 in the tournament for the 'Beeters, winning the consolation final by pin over Ethan Sullivan of Cut Bank in 1:56.

Schoen went 3-1 to finish third at 152 pounds. Schoen won a 8-6 decision over Poplar's Logan Broadle in the consolation final.

Wiegand defeated Fort Benton/Big Sandy's Hayden Axtman by pin in the 182 pound semifinal before falling to Dylan Nieskens of Glasgow.

Dunbar went 2-1 for the Sugarbeeters. He pinned Alan Nelson (Cut Bank) in his first match of the day.

In the 285 pound semi-final Dunbar bested Chester/Joplin-Inverness's Reubin Swenson by major decision 12-0 to earn a spot in the final.

Dunbar fell in the championship to Glasgow's Mayson Phipps by pinfall (1:59).

Eight Wildcat wrestlers competed in their own invitational with five earning podium positions.

Blackcrow went 3-1 to finish third at 160. Blackcrow pinned Colter Ball (Fort Benton/Big Sandy) in the consolation final in 2:14. Rider went 1-1 and pinned Dre Oshio of Malta in the consolation final (2:54)

Longknife went 2-2 Saturday to finish fourth at 126. Hughes was also 2-2 on the day finishing fourth at 145.

Thursday the 'Beeters and Wildcats will head to Big Sandy Thursday afternoon for the Pioneer Mixer and then compete in the Malta Invitational on Saturday to close out the regular season.

The All-Class State Wrestling Tournament will take place in Billings February 14-15.
