Join the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Blaine County to Help Achieve a World Without Cancer

February 12, 2020

Saturday, July 18, 2020 – The American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life of Blaine County invites the community to attend the 2020 event at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. The Relay For Life movement continues to be the largest peer-to-peer fundraising event with 2.5 million participants globally uniting to save lives from cancer.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Tacoma, Washington, in 1985, Relay For Life events around the world have raised nearly $6.5 billion to help ACS attack cancer. Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, the Blaine County event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Cancer survivors, their caregivers and family members are invited to a special lunch starting at Noon. Please RSVP to Betty Billmayer at 357-4100. There is a silent auction at First Bank running through Friday of this week. If you have anything to donate just take it in to the bank. Forms will be there to fill out and put what team the proceeds go towards. Winners will be announced at noon on Friday the 14th. If items are perishable, such as food items, you can have a picture of them or just write what it is and then take the actual items in on Friday.

ACS estimates that one out of three people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Funds raised help ACS fund and conduct breakthrough research and give cancer patients and their families the resources they need, like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support.

Relay For Life of Blaine County is supported by many local businesses and organizations. If you would like to help support this event and the American Cancer Society, please contact Art Kleinjan at 945-0681.

Our next meeting will be March 7th at 1:00 at the Eagles. We will plan to meet the first Saturday of each month. Please bring any money your team has raised to those meetings. I will be keeping track of the money raised and which teams it is credited to, and mailing it in to the state office. Checks only please. They are made out to Relay for Life. If you're not going to be at the meeting you can mail checks to me at Box 1267 in Chinook, or drop them off at our house at 1131 Ohio Street. Make sure to mark what team the money is to be credited to.
