Shirley Harry and Parker Paulsen

We would like to send a huge shout out to Kenny Finley for his generous donation to the library! Thank you to all the people who came out to Finley's Garden Pumpkin Patch and donated money for their pumpkins. Kenny grows a fabulous variety of pumpkins and decorative gourds, which he gives away. This was the first year I have witnessed the activity at Finley's Pumpkin Patch. Kids of all ages and adults took great delight in perusing the pumpkins and choosing just the right one or ones! This was Kenny's third year growing and giving away pumpkins. Each year Kenny has invited anyone; especially young children and families to come to his Pumpkin Patch and choose a pumpkin for Halloween. While Kenny does not charge for his pumpkins, people often ask if he will take donations. This year Kenny chose to donate the proceeds from his Pumpkin Patch to the Library. The Library will be using the money from the Pumpkin Patch for our children's programs. The proceeds were far more than I expected, although, it was exactly what Kenny expected. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity of Kenny and the people who made donations. It's great to live in a community like Chinook.

Youth Programs have resumed with safety procedures in place to keep staff and students safe. After School Hangout for 7th and 8th grade is Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30. Tuesdays will be Story Time for ages 6 and under at 10:30. It will continue to be held on the lawn in front of the Grande Villa while the weather is good and then it will move back into the meeting room. After School Hangout for grades 5 and 6 is Tuesdays at 3:30. Thursdays is LEGO Club for grades Kindergarten and up. The first Monday of the month we will have a Family Movie at 5:00 p.m. Masks will be required for anyone age 5 and over during all programs. Hand washing will be required upon entering the building. There will be social distancing where applicable. There will be no food or drinks during programs.

We have two non-fiction books and several fiction books ready to go this week. "Grounded: A Senator's Lessons on Winning Back Rural America" is Jon Tester's Memoir. "The Answer Is... Reflections on My Life" is Alex Trebek's Memoir. Both books should be interesting. Many of our patron's love Fredrik Backman's books and his latest, "Anxious People" won't disappoint his fans. Christopher Paolini impressed so many of us when he entertained us with his young adult "Inheritance" series. "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars" is Paolini's first adult book and you won't find any dragons in this one. "The Book of Two Ways" is the latest from Jodi Picoult. Picoult is well known for tackling difficult subjects and this one is a riveting novel about the choices that alter the course of our lives.
