Wildcats Resume Fall Sports with Post Season Fast Approaching Football, Volleyball, Cross Country Back in Action this Week

October 21, 2020

The Harlem Wildcat Football, Volleyball and Cross Country Seasons were put on hold in late September by the Harlem School Board.

The tough decision was made in the best interest of the student athletes, their parents, fans and school officials. While the decision is not one they wanted to make, the safety of all involved was paramount.

The confirmation of COVID-19 cases in the High school and Elementary school system along with the sharp increase in positive cases in the community, the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and Blaine County made the suspension the right choice for the school board.

Although cases are still significant in the region, additional protocols have been put in place and last Tuesday the Harlem School Board made the decision to resume fall sports at Harlem High School.

The student athletes have been on their own for three weeks, but they have been in contact with their coaches and have been encouraged to stay focused and be prepared in the event that their seasons could continue.

Cross Country, Volleyball and Football resumed activity on Monday, October 19 with organized practice.

From there, getting the remainder of the regular season in kicked into overdrive.

The Cross Country team will be in action this Friday. The Wildcats will be in Kalispell for the State B Cross Country meet. The Class B girls will run their race at 2:00 p.m. with the boys to follow at 3:00 p.m.

The football and volleyball teams will see a ton of action following the resumption of play.

The Wildcat football team hosted the Cut Bank Wolves on Tuesday, October 20 in their first game action in nearly a month. The Wildcat Cross Country seniors were recognized before the start of that contest. Results of the game with the Wolves will be in next weeks edition.

The Wildcat football team will then hit the road for a contest against the Cowboys in Conrad Friday night. Harlem has a shot at the post season with a win in either game.

The Wildcat Volleyball team will see a lot of time on the court this week.

On Tuesday the Lady Cats travelled to Glasgow to face the Scotties. In an effort to get as many conference games in as possible the teams played a doubleheader. Results will be in next weeks Blaine County Journal.

Friday the Lady Cats will recognize their seniors prior to another doubleheader. The Lady Cats will play two matches against the Poplar Indians. The girls will then take on the Wolf Point Wolves in doubleheader action Saturday and conclude the regular season Monday at home against the Malta M-ettes.

The District 2B Volleyball Tournament will be played in Malta October 29-30.

Spectator guidelines are still in effect for all home contests and masks will be required to be worn at all times. No visiting fans will be allowed to attend. Senior night attendees will be allotted a ticket for all involved. Volleyball, football and homecoming candidates will each receive two tickets as will coaches.
