Leroy James Firemoon Jr. - Mato Shena (Bear Robe)

Leroy James Firemoon Jr. - Mato Shena (Bear Robe) was born on February 22nd 1945 to Leroy Firemoon Sr. and Ruby Talks Different.

He attended School at St Paul's Mission in Hays Montana and Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau South Dakota.

Known as "Jim Moon" he was raised in old Hays by his maternal grandparents Ira Talks Different and Mary (Big Beaver) Talks Different. He was an enrolled member of the Fort Belknap Assiniboine tribe. He made his journey on December 6th 2020 in Lewistown Montana.

Jim Moon was a traveler having lived in Texas Washington and Oklahoma. In Pawnee Oklahoma he worked alongside his brother George Chub Snell as a hod carrier in Chub's masonry business. Together they worked on projects in Oklahoma Kansas and Texas. In 1987 he left Oklahoma and returned home to Fort Belknap. His hobbies include reading, crossword puzzles and helped raise his nieces and nephews.

Jim is survived by his two daughters Jamie and Jasmine Fire Moon of California, Sisters Virginia Cochran, Mary Ellen Snell, Donna First Raised, Margaret (John R) Strike of Fort Belknap, Arleata Snell of Pawhuska, OK, Judy (Ken) Shields and Veronica (Julien) Shields of Wolf Point, MT. Brothers Ted Snell Sr. of Fort Totten, ND and Mike Talks Different of Harlem. Maternal Aunt Irene Doney of Hay, MT. Nieces Judy Ball and Bonita Ball, nephews Matt Ball of Fort Belknap, and Douglas Ball of Arvada, Colorado and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy Firemoon Sr and Ruby Talks Different, his maternal grandparents Ira and Mary Talks Different, his sisters Bernadette Firemoon and Debbie Snell his brothers George Chub Snell Jr., Douglas "Duggan" Snell Sr., Melvin Firemoon, Clarence, Alvin "Cubby ", Bobby and Sherman Talks Different. His Aunts Louise Wing, Lily Fox and Uncles Lyle and Wesley Firemoon. Nieces Martha Ball, Barbara Ann Gardipee, Nephews Michael Ball, Douglas Snell Jr., Joseph and Harlan Snell.

A private service will be held at the Wilderness Funeral Home in Chinook, MT at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 10, 2020 with graveside service in the Lodgepole Cemetery. Immediate family only. Masks and social distancing are required.
