A Second Doctor Joins Blaine County Veterinary Service

September 8, 2021

Anyone requiring veterinarian services now has three choices at Blaine County Veterinary Service. Patrons can select a vet in Dr. Roger Baxter, Dr. Seth Phillips, or Dr. Bobbi Knudsen.

A native of Malta, Montana, Knudsen joined the practice in mid-June. Upon graduation from Malta High School, she attended Montana State University-Billings where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2014. Then, Knudsen enrolled at Colorado State University (CSU) to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree in 2021.

Continually ranked among the best veterinary schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, CSU's DVM Program is a pioneer in teaching veterinary ethics, clinical communication skills, and practitioner wellness. Although CSU boasts that it employs world-class faculty who represent 28 veterinary specialties, Knudsen decided not to specialize. "I prefer diversity and being versatile," she said.

So, she chose to pursue a mixed track to learn concepts of both small and large animal medicine and to develop a knowledge base and skillset that are suited for a career in a private practice, public health, research, or education. She decided to make Blaine County Veterinary Service her professional home not only because it's close to her family home but because she knows Dr. Baxter. When asked whether his hiring her was indicative of his retirement, she responded: "No, Roger's not retiring. I doubt he'll ever retire, preferring to work until he dies."

CSU's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences prides itself on being an institution "where the bones of an education begin with bones," and it was the hands-on surgical experience and clinical training that Knudsen most appreciated while doing her degree work at CSU.

As her goals, Knudsen named "to see as many animals as we can and to help as many animals as we can."

When she's not practicing her healer's art, Knudsen enjoys sports, working out, and walleye fishing. "I work a lot, and during the summer I spend time irrigating, so I haven't been able to do much fishing."
