Chinook senior Allison Powell attacks the Fort Benton defense Thursday night. The Sugarbeeters will be back home this Thursday in a schedule change to take on the Box Elder Bears.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters started the season on a roll, winning their first three conference games. This past week the girls fought hard and competed start to finish, but were unable to find the win column.

Chinook dropped their first match of the year on Thursday night to the visiting Fort Benton Longhorns 3-1. Saturday the team traveled to Geraldine to take on the Geraldine/Highwood Rivals and were dealt another setback in a 3-2 loss.

Thursday night in Chinook the Fort Benton Longhorns were in town to face the Sugarbeeters. The Longhorns brought with them an undefeated record of their own and like the Sugarbeeters, they were looking to remain that way.

Fort Benton got off to a quick start in set number one and led 21-8 late, but the Sugarbeeters battled back, eventually evening the score at 21. The Sugarbeeters maintained the rally and following a Longhorn timeout, won the first set 25-23.

Whatever momentum the 'Beeters had going for them quickly went away. The Longhorns took control of set number two right from the start and cruised to a 25-15 set win to even the match at a set apiece.

The Longhorns closed out the 'Beeters with 25-12 and 25-15 set wins to win the match 3-1.

Sophomore Hallie Neibauer led the attack with seven kills in the match.

Saturday in Geraldine the 'Beeters got off to a very slow start. The Rivals took set one 25-12 and were even more dominate in set number two, winning 25-10.

Sugarbeeter senior Shay Hauer aims for an open spot in Geraldine Saturday against the Rivals. The Sugarbeeters will be back home this Thursday in a schedule change to take on the Box Elder Bears.

With the 'Beeters on the brink of being swept by the Rivals the team dug deep and battled back.

The 'Beeter offense came alive in set number three with eight Kills to power the way to a 25-19 set win. With momentum on their side the 'Beeters slammed home 11 Kills in set number four to win 25-17 and even the match at 2-2.

In the fifth and deciding set the 'Beeters were looking to complete the comeback. Chinook's attack was still strong with just one error on seventeen attacks with six kills, but the Rivals were just a bit better in winning the fifth set 15-13 to knock off the 'Beeters three sets to two.

Chinook was again led on the night by Neibauer with 11 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Junior Bree Swanson added seven Kills to the 'Beeter attack. Senior Tylie Richman and sophomore Mya Berreth each recorded 14 Assists on the night. Junior Torin Cecrle dug up 15 balls to pace the 'Beeter defense.
