October 27, 2021

The Chinook Sugarbeeter Volleyball team closed out their 2021 regular season in fine fashion this past week with a pair of conference wins. On Wednesday the 'Beeters took down Hays/Lodge Pole in Straight sets, defeating the Thunderbirds 25-10, 25-5, 25-15. Thursday they won a decisive match over the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks 25-14, 25-18, 25-13 to claim the District 7C No. 3 Seed.

The Sugarbeeters were originally supposed to take on the Hawks on Tuesday, but a water line break in town forced the game to be moved to Thursday. On Wednesday the girls were in Hays to take on the Thunderbirds.

Chinook stormed out to big leads in the first and second set, winning 25-10, 25-5. Hays/Lodge Pole played much better in set number three, but the Sugarbeeters were still too much as they closed out the match with a 25-15 set win.

Sophomore Hallie Neibauer led the 'Beeter attack with eight Kills and six Aces on the night. Sophomore Britton Elliot added six Kills and senior Allison Powell slammed home five in the win. Sophomore Mya Berreth set up the hitters with a team high 13 assists while senior Tylie Richman added 12.

Thursday the 'Beeters and Hawks met in a match that would finalize the post season seeding for both teams. The winner would earn the No. 3 seed while the loser would be the No. 4.

Chester J-I earned a 3-1 win over the Sugarbeeters back in September but things were very different the second time the teams met.

Playing in front of a rowdy hometown crowd the 'Beeters gained momentum early on and built on it all through the night. Chinook jumped out to a early lead in set number one and steadily added to it. While the 'Beeters picked up 13 Kills in the opening set, the Hawks couldn't mount much offense in return. Chinook took the first set 25-14.

The 'Beeters won the opening set in the teams first match and were not going to let the Hawks back in the match this go around. Chinook kept up their strong play at the net and while the visitors provided more offense of their own it was the 'Beeters that would take set number two 25-18.

With the gym rocking and momentum clearly on the 'Beeters side, they were determined to finish the match in straight sets. Much like the opening set Chinook mounted a strong attack at the net with 20 of their 25 points coming via Kills in a 25-13 set win to clinch the match 3-0.

The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team has been very solid on defense throughout the season. Junior Torin Cecrle, above, has done a fantastic job keeping balls in play from her Libero position.

Neibauer was dominate in the match, pounding down 16 Kills in the sweep of the Hawks. Senior Bree Swanson added seven Kills while Elliot contributed six. Richman was on fire for the 'Beeters setting the hitters up with 18 of the teams 33 Assists. Neibauer scored well from the serving line as well with a game high seven Aces. The defense was led by Neibauer with four Blocks. Swanson dug up 11 Balls from the back row for the 'Beeters.

Chinook finishes the regular season with a an overall and District 7C record of 12-4. The 'Beeters will open play this Thursday at the District 7C Tournament being played in their very own gymnasium. The 'Beeters will take on No. 6 Big Sandy (7-9) in the days fourth match, approximately 1:30 p.m.

The top four teams will advance to the Northern B Divisional in Belt, November 4-6. The top two teams at the Northern C will then advance to the Class C State Volleyball Tournament in Bozeman, November 11-13 on the campus of Montana State University.
