Lady Cats Shine Bright in 76-32 win over Morning Stars

The Harlem Lady Cats were looking to close out the 2021 portion of their schedule this past Wednesday on a high note when they welcomed the District 1B Rocky Boy Morning Stars to town in a non-conference tilt.

The Lady cats started fast and never looked back, winning in dominate fashion, 76-32. The Lady Cats evened their overall record at 3-3 (1-1) in the process.

Harlem controlled all facets of the game, dominating both inside and out while playing pressure defense to start the transition.

Senior Guard Taya Trottier led the Lady Cat attack on the perimeter while senior Post Chloe Messerly manned the paint. Harlem applied a relentless defensive scheme that forced Rocky Boy into numerous turnovers that led to easy layups going the other way. Trottier was the cause of many of those turnovers, scoring 12 points in the opening stanza.

When the Lady Cats were in their half court set they ran the ball through Messerly down low and had no problem scoring. Messerly connected on five field goals and was a perfect three for three from the free throw line tossing in 13 points to pace the Harlem offense early.

The Morning Stars couldn't muster much in response offensively and were out gunned on the defensive side of the ball as well. Harlem got a bucket from sophomore Emma Billmayer to go along with Trottier and Messerly's first quarter output to take a 27-7 lead into the second quarter of action.

Trottier added eight more before the half to power the Lady Cat attack. Billmayer added a bomb from beyond the arc before intermission giving Harlem a commanding 40-17 advantage at the break.

Rocky Boy never got anything going after intermission with the Lady Cats keeping their foot squarely on the gas pedal. Messerly scored 10 more in the third including a perfect four for four from the charity stripe. Freshman Aaraya Mount dropped in a bucket from beyond the arc and score seven in the frame.

The Lady Cats entered the fourth quarter with a 68-28 cushion and coasted to an easy 76-32 win to even their record at 3-3 heading into the holiday break. Trottier and Messerly each finished with 28 points in the contest. Billmayer and Mount added eight points each on the night.

The Lady Cats will return to the court on Friday, January 7 when they will welcome the Chinook Sugarbeeters to town.
