Teams Return to the Court/Mat Following Break

January 5, 2022

Chinook Sugarbeeter junior Tyler Schoen is ranked No. 3 at 170 pounds in the latest Class B/C Wrestling poll. The Sugarbeeters are ranked No. 3 in the Class C team poll.

Blaine County girls and boys basketball teams as well as their wrestling counterparts certainly enjoyed some time off with their families during the Holiday break. The rest was welcomed, but the teams still made sure to get some necessary practice in.

The first third of the schedule has been completed, conference play has begun in basketball and some high quality wrestling meets have been attended. This experience gained before the break is huge for the student athletes and their coaches.

Coaches often use the break to gage where their team is at, what worked well, what needs to improve. They have had time to sit back and evaluate not only themselves but the teams and wrestlers they will have to face to finish the season strong.

Chinook junior Tyler Schoen and senior Wyatt Dunbar will start the second third of the season as Class B/C ranked wrestlers. Schoen is currently ranked third in the 170 pound weight class while Dunbar is second at 285 pounds. In the Class C team poll, the Chinook Sugarbeeters come in at No. 3.

On the hardwood the Chinook girls are in good position to make a second half run for the District 9C crown. The Wildcat boys are looking to get healthy and make a run at the District 2B crown. Meanwhile the Chinook Sugarbeeter boys, Hays/Lodge Pole girls and Harlem Lady Cats have all shown the ability to compete with anyone and will look to make a deep post-season run.
