'Beeters Fall to Chester/J-I 51-40, Cruise by Turner 82-39

The Chinook Sugarbeeters began the new year with a short road trip west to face the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks. The 'Beeters tried to stay close but in the end were defeated 51-40. Saturday the 'Beeters were back home in front of the hometown fans and out ran the Turner Tornadoes in a 82-39 Conference win.

The Sugarbeeters began the new year in Chester on Tuesday night in a District 9C contest with the Hawks. Senior Oskar Pula provided the bulk of the 'Beeter attack early on, scoring six first quarter points.

The Hawks opened up a 22-28 halftime lead over the Sugarbeeters with Pula accounting for fourteen of those.

Pula added 10 more in the second half and senior Toby Niederegger connected twice from downtown but it wasn't enough. The Hawks handed the 'Beeters a 51-40 setback. Pula finished with 24 points in the contest.

Saturday the Sugarbeeters laced up their running shoes and challenged the Turner Tornadoes to keep up. Pula scored eight first quarter points, Niederegger dropped in a pair from distance and senior Braden Eoff connected from long rang as well. The offensive outburst led to a 22-6 'Beeter lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Sugarbeeter didn't let up in the second adding another 26 points before the break. Niederegger scored eight and Pula six giving Chinook a 48-16 halftime lead.

All ten Sugarbeeters got into the mix during the second half with all ten finding the scoring column. Junior Brendan Fetter scored 10 second half points and freshman Landen Beck knocked down a triple. The Sugarbeeters closed out the week with a 82-39 win over the Tornadoes.

Pula led the way for the 'Beeters with 20 points, Niederegger added 16 and Fetter 13. Junior Charley Calvert paced the Tornadoes with 15 points.
