Chinook Sugarbeeter sophomore Jackson Nordboe battles through the paint for a basket for the 'Beeters Thursday night against the Box Elder Bears.

The 'Beeters four game win streak came to an end Thursday at home in a hard fought loss to the Box Elder Bears 70-65. Saturday the 'Beeters put on a show, throwing down five slam dunks in a very entertaining 53-38 win over the Tornadoes. Chinook junior Brenden Fetter was responsible for four of the rim rattlers himself including three back to back to back in the third quarter.

Thursday night in Chinook the Sugarbeeters were hoping to keep the momentum that a hot start to 2022 had brought. While the outcome wasn't what they desired their effort was there and they turned in a solid effort that they can learn from.

Box Elder had all the energy to start, jumping out to a quick 11-1 lead, but after that it was back and forth with huge momentum swings dictating the flow.

Senior Oskar Pula kept the offense afloat early on scoring eight of the teams elven first quarter points. The Bears were cruising putting up 23 in the frame. Oddly enough in the first meeting between the two teams it was Chinook that led early 23-11.

The 'Beeters would tighten the reins on defense before the half and their offense started to find its way. Pula added eight more before the break while senior Toby Niederegger added seven in helping Chinook cut the Bear lead to seven by halftime, 33-26.

The Sugarbeeters and Bears traded point for point and possession for possession throughout the second half. Niederegger added 10 third quarter points and Pula contributed four more, giving him 19 through three quarters. Box Elder still maintained 50-42 lead with eight minutes remaining.

Chinook made some runs down the stretch cutting the Bear lead down to a couple possessions but in the end they couldn't complete the comeback, falling 70-65 in a tough loss. Niederegger finished the contest with 31 points while Pula scored 22.

Senior Toby Niederegger gets to the basket against Box Elder Thursday night. Niederegger had a huge game for the 'Beeters, scoring 31 points on the night, 22 after halftime.

Saturday night in Turner it was a very entertaining contest with both teams playing tough attacking basketball. The Sugarbeeters are athletic and as a team can jump out the building. Saturday the boys put on a show in warm-ups and when the game started they didn't stop.

Junior Brenden Fetter threw down a two handed slam in the first to get things started. There was plenty of action attacking the basket in the opening half, from both teams. Pula scored 12 first half points to help the 'Beeters take a 27-13 half time lead.

Fetter then put on a show, throwing down three slams in a matter of minutes to help the 'Beeters take control of the contest. Junior Levi Jensen add another slam in the fourth, turning a 40 foot bullet from Niederegger into a two handed flush. The 'Beeters coasted down the stretch securing a 53-38 win. Fetter and Pula each finished with 15 points on the night.
