Powered by Petco Love, PAWS Will Host Free Vaccine Event

March 2, 2022

PAWS of Chinook is partnering with national nonprofit Petco Love to give pets their best shot for a healthy life by hosting a free pet vaccine event on March 12-13, 2022. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at the Commercial Building on the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Chinook.

Petco Love established March as “National Pet Vaccination Month” to encourage pet parents to keep their pets up to date on vaccinations. To facilitate this process, the two partners will provide free pet vaccines for family pets in need. As puppy and kitten season approaches, pet exposure to contagious and deadly diseases—such as parvovirus, distemper, and panleukopenia—increases. However, these are all preventable with a simple vaccine.

PAWS of Chinook aims to vaccinate 300 pets through this effort. No preregistration is required for visits to the clinic, which will be on a first come, first served basis. Although the clinic will end at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, if vaccines are still available, they will be obtainable on Sunday, beginning at 8:00 in the morning. Vaccines distributed through the Petco Love initiative will be the DAPPv Canine and HCP Feline vaccines. Rabies vaccinations will also be available on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for $15.

“Thanks to Petco Love, we can offer these important vaccines at no cost to pet owners.” said Alissa Hewitt, Board President. “And thanks to Tari Mord, DVM of Eastside Animal Hospital in Havre, who will be administering the rabies vaccinations. We urge community members to take advantage of this resource to help reduce the spread of disease and to ensure the health and wellness of our community’s pets.”

National Pet Vaccination Month is a continuation of Petco Love’s one million free pet vaccine campaign, which has helped 400,000 pets to date. Fifty percent of participating pet parents surveyed reported their pets had never been vaccinated against these diseases. With Bissell Pet Foundation as an additional partner this month, Petco Love’s goal is to increase awareness and to accelerate the distribution of vaccines.

For more information about the vaccine event, interested individuals should contact Hewitt by calling 406-357-3316, emailing pawsofchinook@gmail.com, or visiting Facebook @pawsofchinook.

The Give Pets Their Best Shot initiative makes crucial pet vaccines accessible to those who may be experiencing financial challenges and assures that cost is not a barrier to protecting pets from preventable diseases.
