'Beeter Tennis off to a solid start in the Northern B/C, Perform Well in Choteau

Chinook junior Lexi Pitkanen reaches high to return the volley during action this past weekend in Choteau. Pitkanen and her Doubles partner, junior Torin Cecrle have began the season 5-1.

The Chinook Sugarbeeter Tennis Team is busy getting their roster all the experience they can to start the season. Weather of course always plays a big part in high school spring sports across our great state. This past weekend the Sugarbeeters were in Choteau competing with a number of teams. Chinook began the season with some early season competition in Chinook and Fort Benton.

Chinook Head Tennis Coach, Janelle Deanon is excited about how her team has began the season and provided some depth to each athletes performance thus far.

The 'Beeters are led by senior Allison Powell. Due to school functions and a wedding, Powell has competed just twice thus far, winning both matches by 6-0 scores in Fort Benton Powell defeated Lena Vaughn and Liana Santos to move to 2-0.

Sophomore Mya Berreth is back for the Sugarbeeters and look to build off a stellar freshman campaign. Berreth has compiled a 5-1 singles record thus far. She defeated Wolf Points Mahayla MacDonald 6-0, 6-0 to start the season. Berreth the took down another Wolf Point opponent winning 6-1, 6-1. In Fort Benton Berreth notched a 6-4 win over Fairfield's Lucia Miranda and a 6-1 win over the Eagles Marissa Wipf. Berreth suffered her first loss of the season this past weekend in Choteau, falling 6-1 to her Conrad Cowgirl opponent. She bounced right back with 6-1 win over Jefferson's Maci Merlow.

Sophomore Jenna Liddle has also compiled a 5-1 record to start the season defeating Laykin Cantrell from Wolf Point 6-1, 6-1 in her season opener. She then added a 6-0 win over Fort Benton's Taylor Ball, a 6-1 win against Three Forks and a 6-3 win against Three Forks before suffering her first loss. Liddle fell 6-4 in a hard fought match against her opponent from Great Falls Central. She then bounced back to defeat Jefferson High's Joelle Quigley 7-5 in Choteau. Liddle and Berreth have also teamed up to go 1-1 in doubles competition winning their first match 6-0, 6-0 and losing their second 6-0.

Senior Tylie Richman has began the season with a 3-0 start this past weekend in Choteau. Richman began the weekend with a 6-5 win over Fairfield's Marissa Wipf. Then followed with a 6-1 win against Choteau and ended with a 6-5 win over the Bulldogs Ella Peach.

Sophomore Tasha Skoyen has began her sophomore season on fire going 5-2 over the 'Beeters first three weeks. Skoyen split her opening matches with Wolf Point, winning the first 7-6, 7-6 and losing the second 6-4, 7-5. Skoyen then won four straight defeating Fairfield 6-2, Fort Benton 6-0, Jefferson High 6-2 and Great Falls Central 6-0. Skoyen dropped her final set in Choteau to Fairfield 6-3.

Freshman Ashlyn Jensen has put together a perfect 5-0 singles record with wins of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 against Wolf Point. Jensen followed with a 6-2 win over Fort Benton a 6-1 win against Great falls Central, 6-4 against Jefferson, 6-3 against Great Falls Central and 6-4 over Choteau.

Freshman Addison Olsen has started 2-0 in singles with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 win over Wolf Point and a 6-2 win against Fort Benton. In doubles Olsen along with freshman Shae Shackelford have compiled a 5-0 record to start the season. Shackelford has also gone 3-0 in singles picking up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins over Wolf Point and a 6-2 win over Fort Benton.

'Beeter sophomore Mya Berreth attacks the net during singles play in Choteau. Berreth is off to a 5-1 start to the season for the 'Beeters.

Freshman Rilee Molyneaux begins her high school career with 7-1 record defeating Fairfield 5-2, Fort Benton 6-3, losing to Wolf Point 6-7, 3-6 (5-7). Molyneaux bounced back from her first loss to defeat Wolf Point twice more, Fort Benton 6-3, Conrad 6-0, and Jefferson three times in a row, 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0.

Freshman Jenni Mord has compiled a 7-1 record as well. After starting the season with a 6-7, 3-6 loss to Wolf Point she has ran off seven straight wins. Mord defeated Wolf Point twice, Fort Benton, Conrad and Jefferson twice in achieving her record.

In doubles the tandem of junior Lexi Pitkanen and Torin Cecrle have began 5-1. Following a season opening loss to Fort Benton the girls have taken down Fairfield, Conrad, Three Forks, Fairfield and Great Falls Central. "The girls have been working so hard this season and are off to an extremely good start. I'm proud of what they have accomplished so far with a joint record of 53 wins and 9 losses. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds," stated a happy coach Deanon.
