Turner to Host 2nd Annual Car Show and Fly In

June 29, 2022

Turner's Main Street will be bustling with activity as the community celebrates Big Flat Fun Day, Car Show, and Fly In on July 23.

As area residents begin to mark their calendars for July events, organizers of the 2nd Annual Big Flat Car Show and Fly In invite everyone to save the date and come join the fun and festivities on July 23 in Turner, Montana. With cars, airplanes, tractors, motorcycles, bounce houses, a waterslide, softball tournament, corn hole games, food, beverages, and live music, the event promises "something for everyone."

The Big Flat Fun Day, Car Show, and Fly In will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a fly in at Turner Airport. Following the arrival of participating aircraft, the Lions Club will serve breakfast in the Turner Legion Hall. Registration is scheduled to take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. during which time people can enter their cars, tractors, and motorcycles in a show on Main Street. These vehicles will be on display from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For more information about the car show, interested individuals should contact Max Cederberg at 406-357-8030. The fly in contact is Chet Fouts, who can be reached by calling 406-945-2313.

At 10:00 a.m. a flag raising ceremony will commence on Main Street. A free will offering BBQ meal provided by Big Flat Grocery will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Before the flag is lowered at 3:00 p.m., people are invited to take part in one of many sporting activities. Although the softball tournament's start time will be announced at a later date, interested players are encouraged to contact Kinsey Lightfoot (406-390-0298) for more information. The fee to register a team is $50.00, and teams need to be registered with Lightfoot by July 17.

Other activities include an informal corn hole tournament and water sports. Sponsored by Big Flat Grocery, Border Bar, Image N That, Foxy Nails, Reed's Ag Enterprises, Norwex by Billie Jo Simons, Bounce Houses and Water Slides by Salsberry Brothers will be available for the children, who are encouraged to bring their swimming suits. General questions about the event can be directed to personnel at Big Flat Grocery: 406-379-2225.

What aircraft will arrive in Turner on July 23 is anyone's guess.

In the evening, live music will be provided by the Wet Weather Band. This is a group of Big Flat farmers and ranchers who joke that the only time they get to play is when it rains. The band consists of Tricia Kimmel as lead vocalist, Alan Van Voast on lead guitar and vocals, Steve Hickel on bass guitar, Butch Mohar on acoustic guitar, and David Jones playing percussion. Kimmel reported that "all the guys do a bit of backup singing."

In further describing the band, Kimmel stated: "I don't know if our style really has a name, but I guess you could call it classic rock and country. We pretty much play anything we think we can make sound good, and kinda give it our own spin. We started out doing (and still do) lots of gospel/worship music for church, youth group and gospel jamborees."
