Montana State University Northern's radio station, KNMC 90.1 FM, is seeking musicians of all skill levels to participate in their annual Rock Lotto. This is an event in which musicians put their name in a drawing to be randomly placed into bands for a one-time only performance on Saturday, September 17 as part of the Havre Festival Days celebration.

Musicians sign up to play an instrument (guitar, bass, drums, keys, horns) or as a lead/backup vocalist. If participants can play more than one instrument, they are encouraged to list their backup or secondary instrument in case too many are signed up to play any particular instrument.

Rock Lotto serves not only as a vehicle for musicians to meet one another but as a method to foster a sense of camaraderie and community among the musicians across the Hi-Line area. According to one event organizer, Dave Martens, "Rock Lotto is the perfect opportunity to test the waters for musicians who have never played in a band or performed live because it is a short-term commitment-around six weeks for bands to assemble, practice, and perform live."

Prior to Havre's annual Festival Days celebration, a music festival was held every May from the 1930s through the 1960s. This festival brought regional bands to Havre to perform. KNMC seeks to honor that tradition by inviting musicians around the Hi-Line to join the fun by creating bands to perform at the Rock Lotto.

Deadline to sign up is noon on Friday, August 5, with the band drawing and song draft taking place on Saturday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tip-It Bar located at 1315 Third Street North in Havre. Once the bands have been assembled, songs will be assigned for the bands to learn. Bands will have until September 17 to learn their songs and rehearse for their performance.

For more information or to get involved, interested individuals can contact Martens by calling 406-390-1238. A signup form is also available via a link on the KNMC Facebook page.
