August 10, 2022

There are 2 days left to turn in time logs for the Summer Reading Program. Time logs are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday August 12th. Names will be drawn at closing on that day. The reader with the most hours read this summer will win an after-hours pizza party. The winner will be able to invite up to 5 friends to join in the fun.

We will continue to do Beat the Heat Movies at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays through August 22nd. All other Summer Reading Programs are finished for the year. Fall programs will start September 1st.

Eight ordinary people with one extraordinary choice. It seems like any other day. You wake up, pour a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. What would you do? That is the dilemma in “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. “The Nurses Secret” by Amanda Skenandore is based on the little-known story of America’s first nursing school. A young female grifter in 1880s New York evades the police by conning her way into Bellevue Hospital’s training school for nurses, while a spate of murders continues to follow her as she tries to leave the gritty streets of the city behind. In “Hatchet Island” by Paul Doiron an eerie, windswept island off the coast of Maine becomes the site of a double murder and a disappearance. “The Big Dark Sky” is a thriller by Dean Koontz. Through a bizarre twist of seemingly coincidental circumstances, a band of strangers now find themselves under Montana’s big dark sky. Their lives entwined; they face an encroaching horror. Unless they can defeat this threat, it will spell the end for humanity. A woman’s seemingly perfect second marriage is rocked by a discovery about the death of her first husband in “The Second Husband” a psychological thriller from Kate White.

We also have the latest Jamie Ford book available this week. “The Many Daughters of Afong Moy” is the latest read with Jenna Book Club pick. It is a powerful exploration of the love that binds one family across eight generations.
