Lady Cat junior Emma Billmayer 24 points Saturday in Harlem's home opener against the Poplar Indians

The Harlem Lady Cats were back on the court this past Friday as they made the short trip east to Malta to take on the M-ettes in their District 2B Conference opener. The Lady Cats gave their best effort but fell 71-27. Saturday the girls were back in the Jungle for their home opener against the Poplar Indians. Harlem started off strong but in the end it was the visitors that took home a 60-39 win.

Friday night in Malta junior Emma Billmayer found her mark on a pair of triples early but it wasn't enough to keep pace with a talented M-ette team. Malta took a 23-10 lead into quarter number two and steadily added to it the remainder of the contest. Billmayer knocked down a couple more from distance before the half doing her best to keep the Lady Cats competitive. Malta led 52-26 at the break and went on to post a 71-27 win over the Lady Cats.

Saturday the Lady Cats got the start they wanted, matching the visiting Poplar Indians each trip down the court and then forging ahead by quarters end. Billmayer scored six in the opening frame to lead the Lady Cats to a 12-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Billmayer connected from distance and added seven more to her point tall before the half but the Indians had stormed back to take a 28-21 lead by intermission.

Sophomore Aaraya Mount connected from beyond the arc in the third quarter and Billmayer scored seven more but it wasn't enough to keep Poplar from adding to their lead. The Indians led 45-32 at the end of three before securing a 60-39 win over the Lady Cats. Billmayer led all scorers with 24 points in the contest. Mounted added seven to the Lady Cats total. Harlem will close out 2022 this Thursday in Cut Bank against the District 1B Wolves.
