The Chinook Sugarbeeter and the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbird boys basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end this past Friday at the District 9C Tournament. The Sugarbeeters entered the tournament as the District 9C No. 7 seed while the Thunderbirds were the District 9C No. 8 seed.

Chinook and Hays/Lodge Pole both struggled to pick up wins with the 'Beeters collecting three and the Thunderbirds just one. Despite their record both teams have shown the ability to compete with any team in the District for stretches of games during the season.

The 'Beeters and the Thunderbirds also played one of the most entertaining games of the season this year, a double overtime thriller that went the way of the Sugarbeeters.

At the District 9C Tournament it just wasn't meant to be for either team. Hays/Lodge Pole began the tournament with a 94-58 setback to the top seeded Box Elder Bears. Senior William Has The Eagle led the team with 11 points while senior Cash Messerly and sophomore Jacoby Ball each scored 10.

Chinook gave Big Sandy all they could handle for nearly three quarters, but in the end the Pioneers were victorious 65-52. Senior Brenden Fetter paced the 'Beeter attack with 23 points. Junior Jackson Nordboe added 12 to the 'Beeter total.

In Loser Out action both teams had first half leads and both teams saw those leads disappear in the second half as their season came to an end.

Hays/Lodge Pole maintained a narrow lead for better than half the game with the Turner Tornadoes but a late flurry saw Turner defeat the Thunderbirds. Has The Eagle paved the way once again, this time with 13 points to lead the team.

Chinook held a 30-19 lead over the North Star Knights Friday morning but a strong second half by the Knights and a frustrated 'Beeter offense resulted in North Star earning a 53-48 win to end the 'Beeter season. Fetter led the attack with 18 points while senior Flint Annis scored 16 points on 8-10 shooting from the field.
