The SpongeBob Musical Promises Music and an Optimistic Message

March 29, 2023

Anyone who missed last Thursday’s opening of The SpongeBob Musical still has time to see the show, which will run through Saturday, April 1 at the Havre High School (HHS) Auditorium. The Theater Department at HHS, Charles and Joyce Finn, and Montana Actors’ Theatre (MAT) invite audiences to partake in this production that features HHS and MAT actors, as well as music written by a host of music industry icons like David Bowie and John Legend.

According to Director Angela Pratt, the stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. When chaos erupts, lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, an unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage, proving that the power of optimism really can save the world.

Remaining show times are Thursday, March 30; Friday, March 31; and Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. A matinee will also take place at 2:00 on Saturday. A group of students from Turner Public School plans to attend the performance on Thursday.

Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg and the book by Kyle Jarrow, the musical production was conceived by Tina Landau. It features original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry of Aerosmith; Lady A; Cyndi Lauper; John Legend; and others—as well as songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny, and Andy Paley.

Costumes are encouraged at all shows, and anyone in costume will receive a special treasure.

Tickets can be purchased online at mtactors.com, as well as from local vendors: Havre Chamber of Commerce, The Computer Center, & Company Apparel, and Bear Paw Meats.
