Book Blast Fundraiser a huge success

The Meadowlark Elementary school in Chinook took full advantage of Spring fundraisers thanks to the quick actions of Librarian Sue Reid. The "Books are Fun, Book Blast Voyage" nearly sailed right on by, "I got the phone call in the library and it sounded like a great fundraiser," said Reid. "They said that I was the only one all that day that remembered the Books are Fun Company! I convinced the administration that it would be a good fundraiser to get books in the kids hands right before summer break."

From that point fundraising began immediately, "Our secretary, Callie Hines put the information on our school Facebook page and that got the word out pretty quickly. Also the Books are Fun Company sent videos with instructions for the teachers to show on the first and second day for the kickoff." In order to generate interest amongst the students the setup was perfect, "There were also treasure maps that made it a really fun and easy way to get the students involved and excited about it. They did a great job and raised a little over $13,000 that went directly back to our students in the form of books. I think it was a success for sure," said Reid.

For a month roughly the kid's gave their best effort, "The Book Blast fundraiser was a pirate themed fundraiser with prizes for those that participated. Prizes for participating were a glow in the dark blanket, a disco ball light, and monkey wall crawlers, plus that put them in the drawing for one of the four treasure chests and an IPad. The fundraiser was online and through the Books Are Fun Company. Every student earned anywhere from 3 to 10 books. Eight students earned $100 shopping sprees and 9 teachers earned shopping sprees. The books arrived on 2 pallets! Over 1000 books. The truck driver said it weighed around 1200 lbs."

What a way to end the school year and to send the kids into their summer break. Be on the lookout for fundraisers for any good cause. Support the summer youth reading program and teen hangout at the Blaine County Library. The Blaine County 4-H and FFA chapters will be hard at it as well
