Havre Trails' personnel invite outdoor and hiking enthusiasts to join them for a Mt. Centennial hike on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. This outdoor event promises wildflowers, scenic views, and potentially bighorn sheep.

According to event organizers, the 360-degree views from the top are worth the moderate to strenuous trek up Mt. Centennial, which has an elevation gain of roughly 1,250 feet. Because the trail features some areas with loose rock, sturdy footwear and/or hiking poles are recommended. Additionally, sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are recommended, and hikers should bring water and/or snacks for what is predicted to be an approximately 4.6 mile hike, spanning two and a half to three hours.

For anyone desiring transportation to the hike location, the group will meet at the HRDC parking lot at 2229 Fifth Avenue at 5:30 p.m. to carpool/caravan. Although interested hikers are encouraged to carpool if possible, the group plans to arrive at the Old Stone Child College parking lot at 6:00 p.m., where interested hikers can join the hiking party. Leashed dogs are allowed to accompany their owners on this hike.

Anyone wishing to self-transport from Havre should travel south on Hwy 234 for 20 miles, then turn right onto Taylor Road to the Agency. From there, travelers should take a left at the stop sign at Old Stone Child College and then a right onto Duck Creek Road. After following the Duck Creek route for a few miles, drivers will encounter Sandy Creek Road on the left, which transitions to gravel. A few miles after the gravel begins, there will be a cattle guard, which marks the trailhead for this hike.

Havre Trails has a group hiking permit for the Rocky Boy's Reservation so that hikers can join the group under this permit. Any unenrolled tribal members wishing to return to reservation land to hike on their own must purchase a recreation permit through Rocky Boy's Natural Resources Department.

Those seeking additional information can receive answers from Hike Contact, Sammie Chagnon by calling (803) 640-2607. RSVPs for this event are appreciated.
