Lady Cats Drop two but Showing a Lot of Improvement

September 20, 2023

The Lady Cats were back in action this past Thursday in Malta taking on the Malta M-ettes. On Friday the girls hosted the Conrad Cowgirls of the District 1B.

The Lady Cats fought hard in Malta and showed a ton of improvement. The M-ettes played well in set number one and defeated the Lady Cats 25-19. Harlem turned the tables in set number two, topping the M-ettes 25-18 to even the match. Set number three was a barn burner with each team rallying for the lead with momentum swings every couple points. In the end it was Malta that took the set 26-24. Set number four was an instant replay of set number 3 and again went the way of the M-ettes 26-24 giving them a 3-1 lead.

Friday at home the Lady cats looked to bring the same intensity, but it was just not meant to be. Conrad swept the Lady Cats 25-19, 25-10, 25-8. The Lady Cats will look to sharpen things up in practice as they prepare for next weeks action.

Head Coach Kim Faulkinberry reflects on her team's big swings, "Hot and cold this past weekend, the Lady Cats played so well against Malta on Thursday night that the match could have gone either way. Unfortunately, we didn't pick up the win, but I was really thinking that we, as a team, we're figuring some things out." Faulkinberry added, "Friday was a totally different story, nothing changed except that we were home instead of being on the road. Conrad is a good passing team, so we struggled getting any points with our offense. We struggled hitting the ball effectively. We also struggled at the serving line and didn't pass well enough to keep us 'in system'. Back to work in practice this week, we don't have a match until next Monday hosting Rocky Boy."

This year's Lady Cat Roster is huge with 36 girls out this fall. The Varsity roster includes seniors Caly Adams, Emma Billmayer, Kaitlyn Johnson and Savanna Jones.
