'Beeters Sweep Malta, Cut Bank Perform well at Fort Benton Tournament

The Chinook Sugarbeeter Volleyball girls were plenty busy on the court this week. Thursday night they hosted the District 2B Malta M-ettes to town in a non-conference tilt, sweeping the visitors. Friday the 'Beeters traveled to Cut Bank for a conference contest with the Wolves. Chinook played well again picking up a 3-0 win. Saturday the girls were in Fort Benton for the Longhorn mid-season tournament. The 'Beeters went 3-1 on the day with their only loss coming from the Fort Benton Longhorns.

Thursday night at home against Malta the visitors held a 4-1 lead before a kill from senior Teagan Richman gave the 'Beeters their first lead at 5-4. Junior Rilee Molyneaux served a pair of points to give Chinook a 9-4 advantage. Senior Hallie Neibauer slammed home a kill to make the score 11-7. Molyneaux kept the momentum going with a little dump for a point for a Chinook 14-8 lead as they cruised to a 25-17 first set win.

Set number two began with a kill from Molyneaux quickly followed by a big block from Neibauer for a 3-2 early lead. The M-ettes rallied to regain the lead until a back row kill from Neibauer evened the score at 7-7. Junior Hannah Schoen scored a kill and Molyneaux followed with a block to give the 'Beeters a 10-7 lead. Senior Mya Berreth set Molyneaux up with back to back kills to keep the ball rolling for the 'Beeters putting them up 13-10. The teams traded points for a series of serves leading to a back row kill from Neibauer and a 23-17 lead late. Chinook would win the set 25-20.

The 'Beeters got off to a slow start in set number three, trailing 8-4 and 12-8 before Head Coach Paula Molyneaux called a time out. Molyneaux scored on three consecutive serves to give Chinook a 16-15 lead. Junior Addison Olsen dumped her set over the net to even the score late 18-18. Neibauer slammed home another kill to make the score 23-20. Berreth served up an Ace to win the set 25-20 giving the 'Beeters a 3-0 sweep.

Neibauer led the way with 13 kills in the win, Molyneaux served up five aces on the night while Neibauer led the team with 13 digs. Berreth set the hitters up with 17 of the teams 35 aces in the win.

Friday night in Cut Bank The 'Beeters used a steady balanced attack to outlast the Wolves in a 3-0 sweep. Chinook built a lead early in set number one and maintained it throughout to win the opening set 25-20. Set number two was more of the same except the Wolves stayed close a little bit longer in a 25-23 second set win. With momentum clearly with the 'Beeters the third set mirrored the first, The 'Beeters closed out the Wolves with a 25-20 win to complete the sweep.

Chinook used a balanced attack in defeating the Wolves. Senior Hallie Neibauer led the way with 14 Kills. Junior Hannah Schoen added 10 kills of her own and junior Rilee Molyneaux slammed home 9 kills in the win. Senior Mya Berreth set the hitters up with 14 assists while junior Addison Olsen recorded 13. Molyneaux and Neibauer each recorded four aces in the win.

Saturday the girls were in Fort Benton taking part in the Longhorns mid-season tournament. Chinook defeated White Sulfur 21-12, 21-12, Roy/Winifred 21-19, 10-9 and Cascade 21-14, 19-20. The 'Beeters fell to the Longhorns 18-21, 18-19. Neibauer and Molyneaux each recorded 18 kills on the day while Schoen added 10. Olsen recorded 26 assists and Berreth 22 on the day. Senior Sami Malsam served up five aces to lead the 'Beeters.
