Lady Cats Edge HLP 63-58 & Blows by Nashua 56-15

The Harlem Lady Cats and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds began the new year in Hays, where they played in front of a full Thunderdome crowd packed with faithful fans that were entertained to the fullest by excellent performances from both teams. It was a battle from the start with both teams taking different leads throughout the contest. In the end, it was the Lady Cats that held a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Cats played well, scoring early and often in a 56-15 thumping of the Porcupines.

Tuesday in Hays, the Thunderbirds led 20-15 after eight minutes of action. The Lady Cats got some solid scoring contributions to stay close with a three-point lead. Senior Tova Anderson, senior Jayden Blackcrow and senior Josalynn Lambert each scored four points while junior RaeLynne Briere knocked down a pair of triples. The Thunderbirds put up 20 points in the opening stanza. Junior Imagin Fox connected from two point range, scoring five herself from distance, and Junior Nina Fox scored five points, including a triple, along with freshman Koria Boushie.

The second quarter was another fun one to watch amongst the cheerful, faithful fans in the stands. The Lady Cats tallied 18 in the second quarter while the Thunderbirds scored 18 points before the half, while H/LP scored 13 themselves, making the score 33-33 heading into the half. Junior Aaraya Mount scored nine more before the half. Senior Emma Billmayer scored seven before the break and Briere connected twice from distance.

Mount added nine more points to the Lady Cats' total. Lambert added seven to power the Lady Cats to extend their lead to 53- 42 heading into the fourth quarter, Hays/LP did their best to cut into the Lady Cat land and did a great job rallying. In the end, it was Harlem securing a hard fought 62-58 win over the Thunderbirds. Fox Jr. tallied 16 points for the Thunderbirds while Imagin added 16 points for H/LP. The Lady Cats were led in the win by Billmayer with 17, Lambert scored 11 in win.

Saturday night, the Lady Cats took a 26-7 lead by halftime and extended it to 42-13 by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Cats finished strong, earning a 56-15 win. Harlem was lead on the next night by senior Emma Billmayer, who tossed in 22 points in the win.
