FFA AWARDS
presented by Mrs. Jen Jones and Mr. Colter Cederberg
Shandel Fouts, guest educator of grain, talked about the unique opportunity that she had with the Turner FFA. For the past 4 months, she worked with the FFA to teach them a bit about grain marketing. They learned about input costs, interest rates, and profit margins. They talked about what causes different grade factors and what off quality products might look like. They discussed some different market trends and learned how to read settlement sheets. They then had 4 months to market their hypothetical bushels to see who could make the greatest profit. She had the privilege of presenting the winner of this opportunity, that being Carson Maloney. This coming Fall, they want to take a step further and seek bushel donations that they will then market. They will use the money they make to go on a mini version of the "Follow the Grain Tour." They will get the chance to watch a grain car load in Harlem, and then take a trip to Portland where they will see the export terminals and other industry related facilities. Nine members of Turner's FFA were in the class that participated. They were MJ Beaman, Trent Billmayer, Carson Maloney, Avery Fox, Caleb Zellmer, Tate Beck, Joe Trautmann, Ty Beck, and Brady Zellmer.
Jen Jones talked about the many functions that Turner's chapter FFA attended.
