Janet Holland of Forsyth, Montana, Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Montana made her official visitation to Northern Star Chapter No 23 in Chinook on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Worthy Grand Patron, Cliff Brophy of Big Timber accompanied her.
Brunch was served and socializing took place at the Masonic Temple at 9:30 AM. The official meeting took place at 11:00 AM.
Pegi Wenger is the Worthy Matron (replacing Melody Sand) and Russell Osmundson serves as Worthy Patron (replacing Jack Mattingly) of Northern Star Chapter No 23. Dignitaries present for the morning included: Past Worthy Grand Matron Diane Lockey and her husband, Past Worthy Grand Patron, Richard, of Helena. Officers of the Grand Chapter of Montana present included: Associate Grand Matron Jennifer Chabotte of Missoula, Grand Secretary Fern Thompson of Laurel, and Grand Electa Vicki Maurer of Conrad. Grand Representatives of Montana in other jurisdictions present were Ben Hall (Chinook), Florida; Sarah Osmundson (Malta), Washington; Tammy Szarzynski (Cascade), Kansas; Mary Waters (Malta), Missouri and Amy Belle Smith (Chinook), North Dakota.
WGM Janet Holland and WGP Cliff Brophy will preside at their "Star Country" session in Billings, June 17 – 20, 2025, to celebrate the One Hundred Thirty-Sixth Anniversary of Montana Grand Chapter.
The Order of Eastern Star was developed in the 1860's by Rob Morris, who was honored as the Master Builder of the Order. It is the largest organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. The members of the order support Cancer Research, Heart Fund, Shriners' Hospitals, Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Masonic Home in Helena and many local charities including the local food pantry. The Order also sponsors the ESTARAL (Eastern Star Training Awards or Religious Leadership) Fund to assist students seeking careers in the ministry.
A Masonic Affiliation is no longer necessary for a woman wanting to join the Order of Eastern Star. The requirement is to be at least 18 years of age and sponsored by a member of the Order. interested in joining this group, please contact the secretary at 945-4436 or any member of the Masonic family.
