Just prior to the 2025 holiday break, Meadowlark Elementary School was due to hold an awards assembly to honor several students. However, because of a power outage in town precipitated by up to 77 mph wind gusts, school officials had to cancel school on Thursday, December 18, postponing the December awards, which were rescheduled for January. Among the awards bestowed on January 8 in an assembly at 12:30 p.m. were a Mountain Mover Award, a Recess Award, and the Principal's Award. Students of the Month also received honors, as did students meeting Accelerated Reader goals.
The Mountain Mover Award recognizes those students who have made improvements during the month in one of the following categories: academics, behavior, or social skills. Calvin Brown, Tymberlee Hallett, James Harry, Katherine Kropf, Charlette Murnion, Keevin Shrauger, and Tobias Surber distinguished themselves as Mountain Movers.
According to Principal Danelle Gibson, the Recess Award pays tribute to students who exhibit respect and good sportsmanship at recess. Recess Awards were conferred upon Clay Elliot, Ember Jones, Remi Reed, Macey Reed, Gaya Silva, and Colson Turner.
A related award, the Principal's Award is reserved for students who exhibit respect for school, self, and others. As described by Gibson, "This award celebrates students for showing determination when faced with challenges; for demonstrating leadership and helping others, perhaps by setting a positive example and demonstrating self-control and a positive attitude."
Those earning the Principal's Award were Maggie Eggleston, Avalynn Greetham, Oakleigh Klein, Dax Langford, Veda Nieft, Livia Turner, and Brooklyn Wymore.
Another distinction, the Student of the Month title credits students for their outstanding effort, behavior, and academic performance. December's winners were Tyler McCay, Royce Stroebe, Brody Olson, Laval Inman, Dyxeigh Skoyen, Collins Langford, and Bentley Reed.
Additionally, two students won Accelerated Reader (AR) Awards. Emmett Hinebauch earned his first rainbow with 200 AR points; whereas, Parker Paulsen earned her fifth rainbow by securing 600 AR points.
Finally, the girls' bathroom in the east hallway was designated as the cleanest, winning the Golden Plunger Award.
