Helen Dee Schroeder was born July 23, 1961, to Don and Dee Hudon in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She was the second of three siblings. As her father worked various ranching jobs, the family moved frequently throughout her adolescent and young adult years. This created a deep love for the ranching lifestyle. Helen loved to ride horses and passed that passion on to her children.
From a brief marriage, Helen was blessed with two daughters, Dixie and Becky Schroeder. Helen also helped her parents raise two of her nephews, Tylor and Logan Hudon. Helen and her family moved to the Harlem area in the early 1990s and fell in love with the community. Her family was her life. Though times were not always easy, Helen made sure her family was taken care of. She always found a way to make things work for her family, whether it was making room for another dog or horse or finding the time and a way to take one of the kids to their various activities.
She raised her children to understand the value of making memories and a "blessing in disguise." Helen was an active member of St. Thomas Altar Society, a 4-H leader, a longtime Albertsons employee, a member of the Harlem Civic Association and Friends of the Library. She always found a way to keep busy. Helen was a firm believer that family wasn't always about blood and was blessed with a very loving family of friends.
After a stroke in 2020, Helen retired from Albertsons. She found joy in watching her family grow, her genealogy studies, raising chickens, and participating in bible study at the Evangelical Church. Helen had a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor that kept most people on their toes during conversations; she wasn't afraid to share her opinions.
Helen passed away, after a brief battle with cancer, on February 2, 2026. Her immediate survivors include Don Hudon, Becky Schroeder (Bryan), Tylor (Kayla) Hudon and Logan (Ruth) Hudon. She also is survived by many family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dee, her brother, William, and her daughter, Dixie. During her final days, she said she would be "checking up on everyone from heaven".
Services are planned for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wilderness Funeral Homes in Chinook, with burial to follow and a luncheon at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Harlem to follow burial. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilderness Funeral Home.
