Myrla N. McCoy, 89, of Chinook, MT, passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2026. A memorial service for Myrla was held Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Chinook Senior Center.
Myrla (Neufeld) McCoy was born on January 17, 1937, to Frank and Doris (Brinkman) Neufeld in Havre, MT. After graduation from Chinook High School in May of 1954, Myrla was employed at the Blaine County Extension Office and married her high school sweetheart James A. McCoy in June 1954. She worked at the Blaine County Extension Office until transferring to the Blaine County Elementary School system as elementary school secretary.
Her hobbies of gardening and quilting were much more than hobbies as attested by multiple purple ribbon quilting awards from quilting entries from the Harlem Seed Show to the Sweetgrass Jamboree, and a wall full of Blaine County blue, red, and yellow fair ribbons for flower arrangements for over 60 years. Myrla pioneered as county extension and 4H leader the activity and 4H project of quilting. In her retirement years, Myrla was an active member of The Chinook Senior Center, creating and maintaining flower arrangements in and outside the center, and providing the senior centers fresh linen for over 25 years. And she was a contiguous and continuous winner of the Chinook Garden Club's Yard of the Week, Yard of the Month, and Yard of the Year awards.
Myrla is preceded in death by parents Frank and Doris Neufeld, sister Helen (Neufeld) Soper, husband James A. McCoy, daughter Kelly Lynn (McCoy) Putz.
Myrla is survived by her son Timothy J. McCoy of Townsend, MT.
