Scofield Will Represent Milk River District at State FFA Convention

On Tuesday, February 10, three members of the Chinook FFA Chapter travelled to Havre to compete in the 2026 Milk River Spring Districts. Hosted by the Havre FFA Chapter, the competition venue was the Fifth Avenue Christian Church where members from across the Milk River District competed in various Leadership Development Events. Although all three Chinook members came away winners, Zoe Scofield, a freshman at Chinook High School, earned top honors and will represent the Milk River District as Star Greenhand at the Montana State FFA Convention.

At Spring Districts, Bryce Elliot, Killian Liddle, and Zoe Scofield participated in Ag Sales, Creed Speaking, Employment Skills, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Star Greenhand competitions. These events provided the opportunity for members to qualify in order to advance to this year's State FFA Convention, which will be held in Great Falls from March 31–April 4 at the Pacific Steel and Recycling Arena.

In Ag Sales, Elliot captured 11th place, Scofield secured 14th, and Liddle came in at number 24 as individuals. With their combined performance, the trio qualified for state as a team. In fact, Ag Sales was the only team competition held at Spring Districts in Havre.

In Creed Speaking, Scofield achieved second place, while her teammate Elliot took second in Employment Skills.

However, top honors go out to Scofield for winning first place in the Star Greenhand arena. In order to advance, Scofield first had to complete the necessary requirements and undergo interviews at the Chapter level. After securing the award locally, she advanced to round two at the District level. Because she won both, she now progresses to state for one more round of interviews against representatives from the other nine districts in Montana. Scofield will serve as the Milk River District Representative at the State FFA Convention.

According to the National FFA Organization, "a Star Greenhand is a prestigious award given to the most active, first-year FFA member (usually a freshman) who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and has developed a strong plan for their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. This award recognizes outstanding dedication and potential among new FFA members."

Although Scofield has multiple SAE's, for this competition she is using her Horse, Chicken, Ranch Work, and Breeding Goat SAE's.
