Community invited to review priority corridors, help shape future safety improvements
HAVRE, Mont. (March 4, 2026)— The City of Havre, in partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hill County, is developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to improve transportation safety and accessibility in the greater Havre area. The project team has identified key corridors where improvements could reduce crashes and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and other users. Community members are invited to review the findings and provide feedback at an upcoming public meeting.
“Residents are warmly encouraged to join us in learning more and sharing their feedback on the corridors and safety improvements we’ve outlined,” said Trevor Mork, Havre Director of Public Works. “We especially look forward to hearing from those who frequently travel these routes and can share their experiences and challenges with us.”
The in-person meeting will be held at the Havre City Hall City Council Chambers at 520 4th Street, on Thursday, March 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
The meeting will begin with a brief presentation outlining the team’s findings and identifying high-risk areas, with a focus on three priority corridors. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and small group discussions to gather feedback and ideas on each priority corridor.
Residents are encouraged to fill out the Havre Safety Survey to share feedback and highlight safety issues when traveling on the streets and roads in the greater Havre area. To access the survey, visit https://bit.ly/HavreSafetySurvey.
The Safety Action Plan aims to develop a detailed list of well-defined projects, programs, and innovative, cost-effective strategies to improve transportation safety and access. These initiatives may involve modifications to intersections, the addition of turn lanes, sidewalk upgrades, and other related improvements.
This process will identify and prioritize projects while assisting in securing funding for their implementation. Initiatives outlined in the Safety Action Plan will be pursued incrementally as funding becomes available. A specific timeline for securing funding has not yet been established. The plan is expected to be completed by late 2026.
This project is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, which provides federal grants to support regional, local, and Tribal initiatives focused on preventing roadway fatalities and serious injuries.
