Spring Brings New Life and a Renewed Need for Blood Donations

Tuesday, May 5, 2026 | Noon - 6:00 pm | Commercial Building at the Fairgrounds

Blood donations tend to drop during the winter months, whether it is due to cold weather or seasonal illness. When spring arrives, schedules begin to fill up. Schools are wrapping up the year, activities pick up, the weather improves, and days grow longer. People get busy, but the need for blood does not slow down. Donors of all blood types are urgently needed, especially those with type O blood and those who give platelets.

Here in Chinook, we take care of one another. That is why we are asking all eligible donors to roll up a sleeve and join us for a community blood drive on Tuesday, May 5, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Community Commercial Building, 300 Cleveland Road at the Fairgrounds. Blood has a shelf life of just 42 days, and there is no substitute for it. It must come from generous donors like you. While spring plans may pull people in many directions, the need for blood remains constant. Just one donation can help save up to three lives. In a town like ours, that could mean helping a neighbor, a friend, or a loved one.

If you are 18 or older and weigh at least 110 pounds, you are eligible and encouraged to donate. Teens who are 16 or 17 can also give with a signed parental consent form, which is available at Chinook High School or at the check-in table on the day of the drive. Be sure to bring a valid ID, such as a driver’s license or school ID.

The Red Cross encourages appointments, but walk-ins are always welcome. Whether you have donated before or this is your first time, we would love to see you there. In a close-knit community like ours, small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Thank you for helping keep Chinook strong, one donation at a time.
